Steve, Thanks for the reply. I tried the null modem cable but the computer could not find the mill. I made the 9 pin to the controller and the 9 pin to computer. I tested all axis to home and jogged each axis and all is good. Is this cable just for testing or can I leave it wired this way? I wired i...

Thanks again, that fixed all the problems. I found 2 of the 8 wires broken in the insulation. I can see over time as the motor moves with the X axis working the wires back and forth eventually breaking the wires.

Thanks for the info; what you suggested made a lot of sense so I went directly to the motor and ohm it out. I found a leg open and after investing further sure enough found the break in the white wire as it goes into the motor housing.
