Thanks both of you. I'll give it a shot when it's not so bleeding cold.

screwcutting chart - newbie help needed
I've sorted a few miscellaneous problems with my TDS1/1GBL as mentioned in my previous topic, and have started thinking about how to cut threads. looking at the chart fixed to the gearbox cover, I've acquainted myself with the dial selector and lever, left right and centre, quad gear in/out, and whi...

Re: Newbie gets a lathe!
Hi again, Thanks for your help. I found that the coolant tank was being held in place by a self tapper with no head! I thought it was missing when I reached down the back and couldn't feel a head. Anyway, I got it off and removed about two inches of treacly sludge from the tank. I was surpised to fi...

I can engage it by hand without the lathe running, just a manual turn of the chu...

Re: Newbie gets a lathe!
Thanks both of you. I have been at it again today, and I have definitely made some progress. The shear pin is not gone, I have seen the shafts turning. It powers along, and it powers across. I hope I have got the relationship right now, between the lever and the dial, although the lever and its spli...

Newbie gets a lathe!
Hi, I'm Steve, and I recently acquired a lathe. I've always wanted one, I'm a mechanic, rather than an engineer by trade, but the number of times I've wished I could make a spacer or a bush, turn a bit off something or drill down the centre of something doesn't bear thinking about. Anyway, I've got ...
