Thread Dial Indicator
Looking for help. I have recently purchased a TDI for my Viceroy TDS1/2P/C/S serial no. M17886. The TDI appears to be that of a 30T item and matches the details given in drg ML109. The problem that I am having is the TDI will not remain mated with the feedshaft when in operation. Applying pressure t...

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/2 PCS Change Wheels
Thanks for the info Pete.
The set I needed had already been sold. They just have the odd one or two left.

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/2 PCS Change Wheels
Hi Pete, Thanks for the reply and the information. I had noticed this facility in a lathes.co.uk article but it is not installed on the particular model that I have in my possesion. Perhaps I have an earlier model or something and the gears were supplied loose! I have managed to track down the 44T a...

Re: Viceroy Gear Selector Fork
A Viceroy re-build article provided by the 'CNC Apprentice' has been a great insight and help in sorting this problem out. Many thanks to CNC for that. The two phos. bronze rivets (see CNC's photo) on the back gear shifter fork (ML100/109A) were found to have worn allowing the inside of the fork to ...

Viceroy TDS 1/2 PCS Change Wheels
I would like to increase the useability of my lathe by obtaining a set of change wheels suitable for screw cutting. According to the screw thread chart, located on the inside of headstock door, I appear to be missing the following gears: 16T; 20T; 24T; 32T (x2); 4OT; 44T and 80T. There is also some ...

Re: Viceroy Gear Selector Fork
Hi Les,
Thanks for the drawing.
It seems to confirm that the two phos. bronze rivets in my lathe are not doing what they are meant to.
I will have a go at removing the gear shift lever gaining access from the rear panel next weekend.
If this fails I think it will be a head stock removal job.

Re: Viceroy Gear Selector Fork
Hi Pete, thanks for the prompt reply. On my lathe there doesnt appear be an oil reservoir in the head stock. There are instead two oil nipples which are directly above the gear train and a couple of grease nipples at the spindle bearing ends. Trawling through this site I have found a drawing for a G...

Viceroy Gear Selector Fork
I have recently purchased (site unseen) a Viceroy TDS 1/2P/C/S lathe, serial number M17886. I gather that this had been unused for some time and on an initial short run-up everything appeared fine. Following a good clean and lubrication there now appears to be a metallic tinkling noise coming from t...
