Hi,
Are these the "Easychange" type of holders? If so, I think Rotagrip in Birmingham sell these new (or they did a few years back, which was the last time I saw their catalogue).
Alternatively, drop me a line as we have some of this tooling lying around at work which may be available (email ...

Mystery solved! :D One of our electrical guys at work took a look and pointed out that we should be using ceramic fuses not glass ones as we were. Apparently ceramic fuses can take much higher inrush currents at start up (i.e. when we powered up the drives). So, the moral of the story is - if your ...

Don't worry, this seems to be normal with these machines. Our Triac's head also gets really warm from just running - I suspect there's a lot of preload on the bearings to stiffen up the spindle. Seems to be common with Orac's as well - we joke at work that those canny Yorkshiremen built a rather ...

Just out of interest (unless I start selling a kidney or something) what's the list price of the basic machine? And dare I ask how much the toolchanger adds to the cost?
Cheers

Charlie,
Paypal would be better for me and quicker - if you PM me your email address I can send you a Paypal bill. £45 is fine.

Charlie,
Have finally weighed it - can send it via Standard Parcels post (3 days approx) for £10. If this is ok, email me or p.m. me and we can sort things out from there - you can Paypal me the money if it's easier/quicker than a cheque

Charlie,
We're in Penylan, Cardiff, CF23 9AT. Collection or delivery would be fine either way for us

Charlie,
Yes, we've still got the TRIAC monitor that Dave Murray's listed - contact either me or him if you're interested.

Dazz,
Firstly, what a nice job you're doing - the engineer in me appreciates your cunning idea of monitoring spindle bearing temperatures as a clue to correct setting etc.
Do you have a catchplate and dog for working between centres - if so, try a test of cutting between centres as this would ...

Hi Mr Magoo,
As Dave says, we'd be more than willing to be gineau-pigs and test out your new versions etc. A DNC link would be brilliant for us - as a matter of fact we've got a job on the machine at the moment which would be a lot less hassle with DNC working. We're just getting into some "higher ...

What is the VFD in the Triac - if it's a Parametrics FHP unit then the manual is ont he group here. These were certainly used in some Oracs so maybe in the Triac as well?

Most VFD's can accept an analogue control signal (usually 0-10V DC) to control speed. You can generate this from Mach3 using a Digispeed controller, from Homann Designs (https://www.homanndesigns.com/). You can then control this from Mach's spindle control functions either in Step/Direction or PWM ...

You're right, Esso Beacon 3 is a grease! Castrol Castrolite in an SAE30 mineral-based engine oil (dating from the 50's/60's.....)

I'm pretty sure Mach could work with the toolchanger - plenty of people run machines under Mach with ATC's. With the toolchanger on my Orac, Dave's going to help me modify it to be controlled via a programmable chip type controller, which will receive a signal from Mach to tell it which tool is ...

I'd also like to see some pics of the machine, plus an idea of cost if possible.

I agree with what Dave says about trying to get an existing CNC machine and update the controller. I'm currently in the middle of an Orac conversion - however, try to get a machine with the original electrics intact. It's surprising how much of this you can re-use - my Orac was missing most of it's ...
