Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1 GBL - what grease & oil to use ?

Appreciate this is an old thread but just wondered what you settled on in the end. I just drained the oil out of the gearbox on my TDS 1/1GBL, with a view to replacing it with ISO 32 Hydraulic oil as others have suggested but was supprised by the viscosity of the oil that came out. It is much thicke...

Re: Acceptable Motor Temperature??

Hi, If there is insufficient induction in the motor it will be unable to impede the current flow and it will get hotter and hotter just like a one bar fire. I wondered if someone had changed the capacitor to a larger one on the start/run winding, but if its the one supplied by the manufacturer that...

Re: Acceptable Motor Temperature??

I get what you're saying Pete, my the old motor was single phase as is my mill and I can't say they ever got this warm but then again I've never paid that much attention to it before now. I did however replace the old motor because the insulation had crumbled away from the wires! I guess the guy is ...

Re: Acceptable Motor Temperature??

Update, I spoke to the Technical guru at TEC Motors and in short my situation is normal but not ideal! Apparently single phase motors draw the same amount of current regardless of the load put upon them so it will heat up just as much under no load as it does under full load, and will continue to do...

Re: Acceptable Motor Temperature??

The fan is going round as the temperature actually comes down initially when you start the motor, before it begins to climb again. If you stop the motor the temperature rises faster presumably due to the lack of air flow from the fan as the heat in the windings transfers to the casing where my therm...

Acceptable Motor Temperature??

I have recently replaced the old (but not original) motor in my Viceroy TDS 1/1 GBL with: TEC motors TCC 802-4, Single phase 0.75Kw (1H.P.) 4 pole (1400 RPM) Capacitor start, Capacitor Run. I noticed recently when changing the belt positions (for the first time since installing the motor) that the m...

Re: Viceroy T.D.S 1/1 GB Apron Reassemble

Hi, Can anyone tell me if the apron on this lathe is supposed to be filled with oil? I had always assumed it had an oil bath in order to provide permanent lubrication for the internal components, however during a recent strip down, clean and rebuild of mine, it appeared to me that owing to the posit...

Installing a TDS 1/1GB

Hello, I am in the process of moving my TDS 1/1 GB lathe to a new workshop and wanted a little more advice than can be found in the manual, on the topic of installation and levelling. I am ashamed to say I did not bother in its previous site and just sat the machine on some wooden batters at each en...

Re: TDS 1/1/GBL Mk1 Thread Indicator Dial

Thankyou, thats what I needed to confirm, i've been struggling to find "DP" gears of exactly the correct size, but had noticed that Module 1 seems very close, and widely available.
Regards,
Alex

Re: TDS 1/1/GBL Mk1 Thread Indicator Dial

Hi David, Thankyou for looking at the dial gear, it seems from your description that the dial indicator is pretty much the same as the Mk 2 one shown in the previous subjects. I dont have the dial indicator on my lathe so I was planning on making one. I just need to source or make the correct size g...

Re: TDS 1/1/GBL Mk1 Thread Indicator Dial

Hi David, Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your reply, I would really appreciate it if you could have a look. There has been a previous thread on the same subject (called "Dial Thread Indicator - Viceroy Mk 2" in Denford Classifieds) where someone kindly posted all the drawings for the thread indica...

TDS 1/1/GBL Mk1 Thread Indicator Dial

Does anybody have a Viceroy Mk1 TDS1/1/GBL Metric (3mm lead screw) Lathe fitted with a thread indicator dial? if so please could you tell me how many and what sizes the gears are on the indicator dial (the one that meshes with the leadscrew itself). I've tried to work it out based on the Spindle:lea...

Re: Dial Thread Indicator - Viceroy Mk 2

Hi, I have a viceroy TDS1/1 G.B.L from 1974, and would also like to sourse / make a thread dial indicator for it. The lathe is metric with a 3 mm leadscrew. Does anybody know if the drawings posted would also suit my lathe? i know the leadscrew has the same pitch as the MK2 but i have read that the ...
