Re: Denstep Novaturn not communicating
Hi Peter, for me it was a combination of things, I ended up buying better quality cables and running the cable directly to the card from the laptop rather than using the box wiring loom. I also re-soldered the rs232 socket on the board and cleaned the white corrosion from around the connector. I wou...

Novamill Sprint spindle drive 12v+ source
Hi All, I'm looking to convert my Novamill and have a pwm to 0-10v conversion module to drive the speed demand input. This module requires a 12v+ power supply. Given the floating nature of the 0-10v input is there anywhere on the board I can get an aligned 12v source? Any thoughts would be great. Al...

Denstep Novaturn not communicating
Hi All, My Novaturn has been brilliant for many years but unfortunately today it's not communicating. 7 segment display cycles 0 then L with a flashing dot. The varta 24v surface mount battery has spilled it's guts and left corrosion all over the board and around the rs232 connection. I've removed t...

Re: Novamill Column Raising Block
Hi All, Been a long time. Has anyone considered casting a spacer in polymer granite and then lightly skimming it with a large diameter fly cutter? My other thought was to get some ground steel plate water jet cut to profile then stack them to height. Any constructive thoughts would be much appreciat...

Re: Corrosion and rs232 performance
Hi Barry, I would suspect the chips are fine, but i would be concerned about the small traces that are pretty toasty as circled below. if there arent that many that are bad, you might be able to just run solder over the trace to make a track, or jump a little wire from point to point. Cant say for ...

Corrosion and rs232 performance
Hi All. I've recently lost Rs232 comms with my novamill first with one of my workshop laptops then both. I've fitted a spare card and am up and working again. If I clean and resolder the highlighted corrosion is it likely to help resolve the issues? Otherwise the board looks fine. 20190923_131528_re...

Re: Fusion 360 Post Processor
Thanks for sharing Dan, I'll be using it fairly soon, I recently lost my hacked post during a Fusion 360 update so hopefully you've got something a little more robust than mine was. Threading caused me the most headaches! Many Thanks Barry M I have a fusion 360 custom post processor that I have been...

Re: HSM PRO CAM - Post Processing TURN 270 PRO
Hi Jeff, Hopefully you're still on the forum... would it be possible to get a copy of your Post? I had one working but lost it during a fusion 360 update. I really don't want to have to start from scratch again as I had lots of fun getting threading working properly. Any help would be much appreciat...

Fitting a 3d touch probe to a novamill.
Hi folks, I'm looking at getting a 3d touch probe for my Novamill. It's the type that goes open circuit when the probe tip contacts the work piece in any of the 3 axes. Does the novamill support this? I assume i would connect it to an aux input? I have an original rs232 control box. If so what gcode...

Beware - VR Turning may not play well with old Novaturns
Folks,
For info it appears that the default steps per mm and possibly the spindle encoder settings in VR turning for older novaturns are incorrect.
I have an email in with the sales team to clarify. Will update here when I now more.
Cheers

Fusion 360
Hi Folks, Given how widespread Fusion 360 is becoming in the student / hobby / startup space due to its free licences I thought it'd be good to have some where to chat on here. Hi Pete, I've been working with the post developed here https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!msg/nottinghack/UHJuNmfZYOU/O314WNt0AQAJ It's a work in progress. I'll upload a fettled version when I'm happy it's working relatively well. I'm going to optical tachometer the spindle and see if the speeds a...

Re: G92 threading cycle
Hi folks, more threading weirdness. With the DOS control software my novaturn threaded perfectly, in VRTurning it seems to cut the threads compressed in z. I discovered that for my 1999 novaturn the steps per mm were different from the default machine setup in the latest VRTurning so I had to chang...

That clamp/stop on the right looks interesting! Did you machine the yourself? It looks like it's sitting on raised pads, and has tangs to fit the T-slots? What material is it made from?
