Re: Cyclone spindle encoder
This is my table of wire colours for the belt driven encoder. I didn't bother with pin numbers - as I kept the original loom, then connected the machine cabinet end of the wire to my motion controller. Enc 1 - A+ Green Enc 1 - A- Blue Enc 1 - B+ White Enc 1 - B- Purple Enc 1 - INDX+ Red Enc 1 - INDX...

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
I've now finished the Mach4 Conversion - and it works well, including threading & Rigid Tapping. I've used a CSMIO-IP/S which will talk directly to the OE Spindle Encoder. 2 x Allen Bradley Ultra3000 Servo Drives which will directly control the original Fanuc Red Cap Servo motors, with Step/Directio...

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
I've been in the process of converting my Cyclone to run Mach4. [While I like Fanuc and the OT-B isn't the worst of them, the lathe is best suited to production work rather than small, quick jobs because of how time consuming it is entering the G-Code. I figured Mach4 would suit my needs better.] I'...

Re: cyclone tailstock
I don't have a tailstock either - and I've never seen one offered for sale.
I had figured on building one when the time comes I need one. The simplest option I can think of is a small hydraulic cylinder connected to the coolant feed - using the coolant pressure to extend the tailstock into the job.

Re: Cyclone spindle encoder
The spindle has an encoder on the motor, connected to the spindle drive which allows it to regulate the speed, corresponding to the 0-10V Analogue input. There is a second encoder (belt driven from the spindle itself) which the controller reads to display the current RPM. It may also be using this t...

Re: parting ali help
I would say it lifting implies the turret is not properly locked. I would go through your tool change logic again. You can buy alternative parting tips which work well on most Alumimium. They have a sort of M shaped profile rather than a flat tip. I'll find the part number when I'm at the shop next.

Cyclone P OT-B Schematic?
Do any of you have a set of schematics for the above? The Serial Number of my machine is: 25031E 1991. Having used the lathe for a couple of years with the Fanuc controller, I've decided to convert it to something more modern. I like the Fanuc, but compared to Mach4 (for example) it feels pretty clu...

Re: TU150U in need of TLC
That was in a sorry state! On the plus side, when you've finished you'll have a fantastic Lathe!
I'm envious of your power chuck & parts catcher!
It looks like a good candidate for a new control system as yours looks more antiquated than even my Fanuc.
Best of luck with the restoration.

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
Just as a quick update, 2 Months on from getting it up and running on 230V 3 Phase - it's still running nicely! I've pushed it quite hard a few times and it has not complained - and the magic smoke has not escaped! £500 Inverter + £100 choke is all you need! The 10Hp is only needed for a few seconds...

Re: Cyclone X Axis Dovetail Repair
You've made a nice job of the repair. Sadly, I don't have any Ballscrew ideas other than someone like https://www.cnc4you.co.uk/Ballscrew There's are not bad quality - but you have to machine the end yourself to suit. Seeing what you've done above, this is not going to be a problem for you! To be fa...

Cyclone Dripfeed - Possible?
I'll answer the 'why' question first. On a previous machine, I made a little Arduino powered box which had a number of wizards for quick machining jobs selected from a touch-screen. Things like facing, chamfers, radiused ends & slots, much like the wizards built in to Mach3. You dialed up what you w...

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
Mine is 2.2kw and the spindle will go up to 5000rpm (at least, that's what it says, I have no way to measure, but it looks scary fast!).
Pulley ratio looks 1:1

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
Good news - I have it running! To make yours run, you will need a 10Hp / 7.5kW Phase converter. I used a digital converter, I don't know if it will work with a rotary, but it seems likely. The Cyclone needs 415v to operate, but can be made to run on 230V 3 Phase (see later). The simplest option is t...

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
That's kind of the conclusion I'm coming to! Looking at the (simplified) schematics I have: Coolant Motor - 415v 3Ph The spindle, spindle fan and axis drives - 220V 3Ph Fanuc - 200v + 100v 1Ph (1.1kVA) Control & E-Stop - 110v 1Ph (200VA) Tool Post - 110v 1Ph (300VA) Transformer box fan - 24v 1Ph It'...

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
Thanks Pete. So, mine is a Cyclone P - that's a start! The current quoted in the literature as well as on the rating plates seems random! I've seen rating plates as low as 16A and up to 29A where the literature is generally 16 to 20A. Have any of you run one on a phase converter? If so, what size / ...

Unfortunately, I don't have the manual - or much else other than the machine.
27A is possible as production mmachines have high acceleration / deceleration.

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
I've just spoken to David from Drives Direct - who has quoted me £3995.00 +VAT for a digital phase converter to run the Cyclone. Is that realistic? or was that him trying to get rid of me? I'd appreciate any advice. I could just convert the whole thing to Mach 3 - and that's looking promising today....

New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.
I previously owned an Eazyturn3 - which was fantastic (post Mach3 conversion). The only thing I didn't like was no ATC. I've now bought a Cyclone which is obviously a much more grown-up machine. 20181210_081429.jpg 20181210_081448.jpg I don't know much about it - I don't even know the model number! ...
