I'm using a 7 year old VL300 & have started to have problems cutting through acetate. One thing you could try. We had a similar problem and when I opened up the compressor unit I found that the DIP switch block had fallen off the small circuit board. Re-soldered it in place & hey presto, it works fine.

Finally got the boss to tell me what he was up to - it was him who asked me to post the original question. All he's doing is importing photographs from Corel to produce lithophanes, so there should be no problems there. Isn't it easier when you know what someone is trying to do???
