Hardware/Software: Novaturn without controller. Will mod to use EMC2 and AC servo motors.

Hello all!! I have been very busy working on several projects. I have started my retrofitting of a NovaTurn. I will be using Yaskawa AC servos 100W. I will post more pictures and video soon. If you want to see some basic videos please go here; CNC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg8HZzmHRtQSound Card https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1Xj6C5Uq2II have demonstrated Ubuntu 10.04, LinuxCNC and Windows 7, 32bit-MACH3 using a MESA 6i25 for closed loop analog servo control and a PCIe x1 parallel port card to breakout board for open loop stepper control. In a previous post a few years ago, the unit does not have the controller cabinet. I am designing a new unit. It will be very small. The Gizmosphere is approx 3.96" x 3.96". The iBOB2 is approx 2.5" x 2.56" in size. To Admin, I would love to demonstrate your software running on this system if possible. I welcome any comments or thoughts. I am still interested in locating a tool turret for this lathe if one is available. Thanks, Robert Blanton

The "Schematic Circuit Diagrams for the Novaturn" reference SHEET number 4, for the 42 way connector. Sheet 4 is not part of the circuit diagrams. Is sheet 4 available?
Thanks,

Just finished the new X axis servo motor plate. I used my converted Sherline Mill with DC servo amplifiers that I built/designed a few years ago. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Most of the initial work is posted on CNCZONE under Iron-Man Servo. I will be powder coating the parts. I have already started the new design for the Z axis servo plate.
I welcome any comments.
Thanks

Picture of iBOB2. The iBOB2 turns the Gizmosphere 1 into a powerful CNC controller. You can attach Mesa cards, parallel port cards or any PCIe compatible card.

not much metal left on the inner wall of those slots! I'm sure you have thought about that. Good work!

I am trying to make as little modifications as possible. The piece is 1/4" aluminum and is very strong. When I get the Triac retrofitted, I may redo the parts in steel. Thanks Iron-Man

Assembly drawing ST6_0700 shows a # 2MT taper inside part # ST5/703, are the dimensions of this part available? In addition, is part ST5/704 a brushing / bearing? After a little research, just figured out the part is a "Morse Taper Socket Adapter". I will try this model and adjust as needed; http://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/00185041Thanks

I have been working on a design based on the iBOB2 and Gizmosphere 1. The Dimensions of the GQ1 are Width 6.79", Height 6.61" and Depth 10.29". It has 6 axis of +- 10V analog servo control and all I/O are available on 2 DB50 and 1 DB 25 connector. The RJ45 is for a pendant interface. It could also be made for step and direction. I prefer true closed loop control. I plan on selling the iBOB2 for anyone who wishes to make a ultra small CNC controller or place the complete controller within a small case or enclosure. The small circuit board in the back left is the iBOB2. This will be used for the NovaTurn Lathe.

I need to machine my own chuck key. Can anyone post the specs and a high resolution image of the NovaTurn chuck key?
Thanks,

Does anyone have the exact part number for the NovaTurn encoder or data sheet? I should be posting video of the NovaTurn AC soon.
Thanks,

PathPilot on AMD Gizmosphere1, T40E + iBOB2
I am almost finished. I have PathPilot running on the GizmoSphere 1. Specs: G-T40E dual-core processor running at 1.0 GHz, combined on a single die with AMD Radeon™ HD 6250 discrete-class graphics. The board provides a performance capacity of 52 gigaFLOPS (GFLOPS) at less than 10 watts. Custom high- and low-speed edge connectors enable a full range of functions. This unprecedented level of integration between serial and parallel processing offers a power-efficient foundation for high-performance multimedia content delivery across a broad range of embedded designs such as digital signage, x86 set-top box (xSTB), IP-TV, thin client, information kiosk, point-of-sale, casino gaming, media servers and industrial control systems.
Currently decoding I/O on the Hardinge interface. The MPG, Axis select, and Rapid Override are functioning under Linuxcnc. I just need to change the bit file and 7i77 I/O for complete functioning.
