serial cable

Hi, I just got this used machine. I am new to CNC and will be taking some classes,
What I can tell it’s a micromill 2000 but not sure.
The board is a smartstep 3 with a denment 2.0B
Software VR CNC Milling V 2.28 and Mill Cad Designer V2.22
I don’t have the serial cable and seen different pin out to make one, just want to make sure I get it right for this machine.

I turn the machine on as it sits and it powers up and get I a number 8 on the board.
Also the spindle works when I adjust the variable pot.

If I can get some information on my findings it would be a great help.

here are the connections mounted on 25 pin d-sub connector on side of cabinet

Whatever goes in-between must end up with the pins at one end being connected to the correct pins at the other...ie plug everything in and check that pin 2 on the pc 9-way goes to pin 3 on the Baldor 9-way etc..

The attached post shows the internal cables.

I believe you have a US MicroMill and a Microturn so the internal cable you have fitted will be: BI01812B

The external cable is a BI01812N This is a standard Null modem cable.

Thanks for the reply. I tried the null modem cable but the computer could not find the mill.

I made the 9 pin to the controller and the 9 pin to computer.

I tested all axis to home and jogged each axis and all is good. Is this cable just for testing or can I leave it wired this way? I wired it from the post below.

It's up to you.
Now you know what connections work, you could make a suitable cable to connect to the (25 way?) connector on the outside of the machine.
