Quick Cam Pro not setting Cut Depth

Post by SD94 » Mon 17 Aug , 2015 7:19 am

Hi
When using the following STL file for a set of gears for a wooden mechanical clock, Quick Cam Pro will not allow me to set the Cut depth , it defaults to -1.00mm and only allows -1.2mm , if you can help that would be much appreciated.
The Original file was created in inventor 2015

Have you got the dimension correct? When I orientate the model it shows up as 1.2mm thick in Z. (24mm & 19mm in X & Z) which seems small but would fit with what you are reporting.

Hi
We have to set the scale to X1000 of size because it doesn't size correctly even after increasing the size we cant set the cut depth , now the original file was created in inventor 2015 , could this cause an issue ?
even from day 1 we haven't been able to set the cut depth ?

The problem is in the scale settings of the CAD software.

By default the STL output is set to be in cm and should be set to mm

As a result the initial model is only 1.2mm thick probably this should be 12mm.

I will post up another link explaining how to change these settings shortly.

If you were to set the billet size correctly before scaling the model you will be able to get a larger depth

The attached screenshots show how to import the model and get it to cut

1 shows the initial model size.
2 shows where to scale the billet
3 shows how to scale the model to fit the billet and then the Z depth can be increased to the bottom of the billet
4 shows the best machining plan to make the parts.
