Starmill

Post by 30tooo » Tue 12 Oct , 2010 16:58 pm

Hi everyone ,
I am a newbie to this site and I have just purchased an old Starmill on ebay and which I have just seen run ok on the software installed on the previous owners laptop . Unfortunately I could not have the laptop as well .
The mill came with a floppy disc which has "Starmill Nee Software" written on it and I also have the dongle with it . Can I use a version of the VR software with this mill and is there a cost involved . Also will the old or new software work with XP ?

Many thanks for looking .

The NEE controls cannot be updated, but the software should work under a DOS emulator or Virtual Machine

Wow ! That is a fairly comprehensive answer . Thank you .

All being well , I now should have in the next week , 7 pc's , all windows 98 , so hopefully I wont be having any more problems with hardware/software issues . It will now just be a learning curve with any luck .

Many thanks again .

Re: Starmill Urgent Help needed please

Hi all , as in my first post I have a Starmill with Nee software floppy and dongle . I now have an old Windows 98 pc and cannot find my way to getting started .
When I put the floppy disc in to the drive and open the disc from "My Computer" I see what is in pic 0029 .
If I go to the Starmill app icon and press on it , I get pic 0028 .
If I go to Install , I go through a process which is pics 0030/31
If I start the pc up in DOS mode and try and copy the floppy to drive C , I end up with pic 0027 .

Now you have bear with me as I do not use , and have not used pc's before , so I have found my way to this point by sheer luck . I normally use applemacs .
Is my floppy disc buggered ? Is there a way to copy the files from the laptop that it was originally setup on and install them on this old pc ?
If anyone can help , please explain it to me in a fashion a 2 year old can follow as I do not have the DOS or PC knowledge to work with .

Thank you .

It could well be the disk is corrupt...that magnetic data has been on there for quite a few years now.
Hopefully you can recreate the disk from software on the website (sorry I don't know which one you should pick though)
