Here is a tech note on why .dxf files can cause problems when exported and imported between different CAD CAM applications.

If you are having difficulties or crashes when trying to import .dxf files to VRMilling5 or QuickCAM 2D:
Try to export .dxf files as an older version (say Autocad 2000 or earlier)
Try to exclude anything but the lines, arcs and polylines needed for machining (eg, turn off/hide all other layers)
Try to explode complicated shapes or blocks/groups before exporting

Newer .dxf files from Autocad / Inventor etc.. contain information than the .dxf importer in VRMilling5 isn't able to process...
This quote from wikipedia explains why VRMilling and QuickCAM 2D is not able to support newer version of .dxf files:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AutoCAD_DXF
As AutoCAD has become more powerful, supporting more complex object types, DXF has become less useful. Certain object types, including ACIS solids and regions, are not documented. Other object types, including AutoCAD 2006's dynamic blocks, and all of the objects specific to the vertical-market versions of AutoCAD, are partially documented, but not well enough to allow other developers to support them.
