Microturn Com Port Settings

Post by illmakemyown » Mon 28 Apr , 2008 5:20 am

I just bought a 2002 microturn with VR Turning v1.3, and installed the software on a window 98 computer, and when I click on the "machine" button the mouse pointer turns into a hour glass and doesn't let me do nothing else, I have to close the program by hitting the con, alt, del buttons on the keyboard. I think I might have the com port settings wrong but I don't know where I have to set them since not all of the settings are worded the same on the computer versus the wording on the software. What goes where? Bits per second = Baud rate? I'm not sure, does any one know what = what? Thanks

Can you check to see if the 7 segment display is illuminated (Remove electrical cover off rear of machine). If illuminated what is the number / letter ?

I am using a 25 pin to 25pin cable that came with this machine, the computer I have for this Microlathe only has a 25 pin comport no 9 pin ports, but my Micromill came with a 25 to 9 pin cable (haven't been able to use this one because I have no VR milling software yet) should I get a computer with a 9 pin port? Where can i get two new cables, and what cable should I ask for? Thanks

New PC's are now getting harder to find with 25 pin RS232 ports. I would source the parts locally and make up my own cable or contact our sister company Denford Inc. Note? I have just remembered, I think there was some sort of difference with the cables supplied for UK and US machines. I will send a copy of this post to Denford Inc for their comments.

Microturn 2000 Cable

Post by Benny » Mon 28 Apr , 2008 16:39 pm

All microturns circa 2002 were shipped with the standard RS232 (25 to 9 pin) cable in USA. If you purchased these machines from someone with larger lathes or mills, they may have inadvertently given you the 25 to 25 pin "fanuc" cable.

You can 1) make your own RS232 cable 2) purchase from Denford Inc. @ 800.886.9750 w/ credit card 3) source your own cable.
