Image (BMP) Machining Plans with MicroRouter Compact

Post by rharrison200 » Sun 18 Feb , 2007 20:45 pm

I have been trying to machine (MicroRouter Compact) images with a 1/8 photo engraving tool without much success. I noticed a series of large dimples all over the surface of the plastic I tried to machine with a very approximate imprint of the image I selected.

Can anyone suggest a suitable machining plan, stepover etc. to achieve a good result? (I have been using 3mm opaque blue acrylic sheet).

Hardware/Software: Go to User Control Panel > Profile
Enter as much information about your CNC hardware and software as you can - it makes it easier for everyone to know what you're talking about then.

Have a look at the Lithophane tutorial (should be installed with QuickCAM 3D V3 or QuickCAM pro - Menu > Help > Tutorials)

You can also view it here:
http://www.denfordata.com/pdfs/lithophane_tutorial.pdf

This tells you all you should need to know about picture milling (and more)

Make sure you have updated to the latest version of QuickCAM
Attach a picture of your results if you don't get anywhere.
