Stepper Motor Voltage

I am about to update a 1985 vintage Triac with a Gecko system. I'm told the power supply should be between 4 to 25 times the rated motor voltage. From the info I have the motors are 3.1 and 3.5 amp 200steps/rev voltage max 90V.. the Geckos max at 80V ??? Please can someone tell me the motor voltage or can I use the existing power supply?

The motor part No. MHY200-3424-310-A8 and MHY200-3450-350-A8

just use the existing power supply, it's around 50v and will be fine :D

A stepper motor can be used at any voltage up to the rated max.

The higher the voltage the faster the current gets into the winding and the more power you get.

The Stepper drivers chop at high frequency and as the current into the winding reaches the rated level it is limited until the chop frequency shuts off the pulse. This is all happening at the chop frequency.

The motor current rating must equil or exceed the drive current rating.

The motor Voltage must also exceed the drive voltage.

The closer the current rating is to the drive current the better the match

The higher the supply voltage is within the limits of the motor the better.

You can put twice the current into a motor if you wire in parallel.

The motors can run at 1.4 x 3.1 A if wired in parallel.

The existing power supply will be fine. Do you know what the rated stepper motor drive output current is?

If 3A wire in series if 5A wire in parallel
