Axis motor moves the wrong way after reconnecting

Post by Steve » Mon 06 Mar , 2006 9:20 am

I have replaced a stepper motor on my machine and the new one jogs the wrong way when I try and jog it.
How can I change the motor direction?

Stepper motor wiring

Post by Steve » Mon 06 Mar , 2006 9:26 am

Stepper motors have 4, 6 or 8 wires Regardless of the number of wires only 4 are connected to the drive. The motors can be connected in series or parallel depending on the motor type.
The 4 wires that connect to the motor drive are split into two phases (or windings) which can be identified by cheching for continuity.

To Reverse a motor you have to reverse the wires on one phase of the motor only!

Normal phase colours are RED & YELLOW and ORANGE AND BLACK.

Reversing either pair reversers the direction the motor revovves
