RS232 cable connections yet again....

Post by TDIPower » Sat 03 May , 2014 11:43 am

Im am really struggling on here. So many threads link to each other often referring to information I haven't been able to find.

I have a Starturn 5 (viewtopic.php?f=46&t=4538). I am trying to get the serial cable sorted.

The connections on the 9 way D type into the LCB3 board are as follows (which do not make sense when looking at this viewtopic.php?t=231)

1 Screen
3 Red
4 Blue
6 Yellow
8 Green

In the Manual for the Mirac (I found on here somewhere) someone has written on it saying it should be

2 TX (out from board)
3 RX (in to board)
5 ground
7 RTS
9 CTS

However further into the manual someone has crossed out the typed text and written the following

2 TX is now 4
3 RX is now 3
5 ground is now 1
7 RTS is now 8
9 CTS is now 6

That makes sense given the wiring in the 9 pin D type plug!

On the other end we have the 25pin D type

2 Blu
3 Red
4 Green
5 Yellow
7 Screen

This in my mind gives the following signals on the 25 way D Type pins

2 TX out of machine
3 RX into machine
4 RTS
5 CTS
7 Ground

SO which pins do I connect to on the 9 Way D type into the computer. I have seen some diagrams on here for the Starturn where links have been made on lines so it loops back into the Machine at one end and the PC at the other.

Could someone PLEASE just tell me to wire this pin to this pin.

At least then I know that is correct and I can hopefully get past the Error 128.

Thanks IN HOPE...

Pete
