Thread Dial Indicator

Post by steamgeek » Tue 03 Jan , 2017 17:42 pm

Christmas is over and after over a year of searching for a thread dial indicator, I decided to build one !

Found the Denford factory drawings on the forum and after several minutes of study, the dreaded engineer's weakness kicked,
and 40 minutes later a new set of drawings with a ball raced shaft were heading to the workshop - another case of over engineering !

I used mass produced metric gears for the drive from the lead screw, I have since found a supply of delrin gears which I would have preferred to use rather than running a steel gear on my leadscrew, future improvement.

Initial test cuts have been good and apart from the two indicator marks being about 3 degrees off I am well pleased

Now to hoover up the swarf!

Have a good 2017
