Denford lathe ages?

A few questions for a Denford archivist!

1) Is there any way of relating a Denford machine number to build date? The only positive information I have is from a photo on www.lathes.co.uk which shows a date of April 1982 for a Denford Synchro No. 30393. Curiously, on the plate, 'Synchro' has been stamped as 'Cynchro'. My Synchro is 28658, but with no date given.

2) Were the numbers sequential, regardless of whether it was a lathe, shaper, mill or grinder, or were 'blocks' of numbers set aside for each type of machine?

3) As most 280 drawings seem to be dated mid 1978, am I correct in thinking that production started later that year, but when were the last 280s built? Any idea how many were made?
