Hi Jeff, nice machine for £300 mine hasn't got the gear box like yours has and I paid double that with only a 3 jaw chuck. I noticed you are VFD I seen a teco 1hp inverter on ebay for £110 do you know if this will do for my machine? it has a 3 phase motor and I'd like to control the speed with out changing belts and pulleys. The people I bought it from said its a duel voltage motor that's on it and said I'd need a convertor electrics aren't my strong point and don't want to buy unless I'm 100% sure. I bought a 1hp single phase motor to get me running until I get a better understanding on how to go about the invertor/convertor and firing the 3 phase one back in.
Regards Alan.

Re: my new lathe an old viceroy
Hi
The TDI I got is off the Mk 1 lathe & I have the Mk2.
Does anyone know if there is a difference or modification to the TDI for the Mk 2 T.D.S.1/1. & the Mk1 .
Looking at them the only thing I can see is the spacer on the Mk2.
On the Mk1 the TDI fits next to the lathe & on the Mk2 the is a small spacer Ml109/5 11/16” bush.
Does the bush make any difference to the running of the lathe, I cannot see that it would, but you never know.

I will program the VFD presently, how long did you give the motor to slow down & stop & run up,
No definitely not. The risk is that stopping too quickly will cause the chuck to unwind off the spindle.jeff1137 wrote: did you fit a brake to the VFD.

For that size motor, I would recommend a max of about 1500rpm.jeff1137 wrote: I have a 900w motor 3ph, have you had any prolemes runing at 1800 rpm, my motor is old maybe 15-25 years ???
It doesn't really matter because you can increase torque by engaging the backgear.

Hi
That's 4s up and 4s down.
My VFD achieves this by ramping the speed. There is no brake resistor.

Hi Dazz
Thanks, it will make it easier to program the VFD if i know it will work right first time.
