Viceroy TDS1/1G.B.L Spindle Bearing adjustment/refurbishment

Post by dazz » Wed 23 Aug , 2006 10:23 am

Hello

I have just purchased a Viceroy lathe in good condition. To keep it that way, I'd like to clean out and replace the lubricants on all the bearings, gears and other moving parts. This includes the main spindle bearings. I'd like to remove and clean the main bearings but I want to make sure I can refit them correctly.

Does anyone know the correct adjustment procedure for the Timkin taper bearings?

I have an imperial lathe. Does anyone know a source of metric change gear? Does anyone know the tooth count?

My lathe is about 1979 vintage. It was owned by a fitter who built model steam trains. It was sold to another fitter/turner model builder who preferred to use his Myford. It was then sold to an Engineer who used it to rebuild kart engines occassionally. Despite it's age, this lathe is low mileage and should still be a good machine in another 30 years.

Any information, tips etc would be much appreciated.
Regards

Dazz

The metric gear will probably be 127 attached to a 100 tooth gear

I think admin uploaded a handbook on your lathe - have a look around
