How to replace mirrors 2 and 3 on versalaser

Post by Denford Admin » Fri 19 Jan , 2007 10:18 am

These PDFs show how to replace the mirrors on the versalaser.

TIP - keep these mirrors clean at all times using the provided cleaning fluid and 'cotton buds'
If dust and smoke build up, then the mirrors get hot, burn and even crack

Replacing the mirror is straight forward. However, if there is no magnetic attraction it is not being held securely. Why should the mirror be demagetised? Can we have a new one please?

Please note:

There is heat build up in the mirrors and lens when the laser is being used.

If the mirror or lens are marked with smoke or material that has been cut then the heat build up increases and can burn or crack the optics.

Never clean the optics shortly after running the laser :!: :!:

If you put cleaning fluid on a hot lens or mirror it will crack or craze :(

It is best to clean the optics when the machine has not been used for at least 30 minutes.

If the optics apear to be clean leave them alone :!:

When cleaning with a cotton bud just roll the bud over the optic once. Do not use the bud more than this as you could scratch the surface with particals that have been picked up.

I have learnt all this from experience and cotton buds are a lot cheaper than a new mirror or lens

We can supply spares for the ULS Lasers.

Denford Ltd, 01484 728000

Do you know what model you have & which optics you require?

Hi Martin,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, its the VLS 3.50 Denford Versa Laser.
The magnetic mirror on the left and possibly the lens on the right.
We have been using it for a while with intermittent problems cutting to depth. Have checked all alignments and depths etc.
It has gradually gotten worse over time so I'm thinking either the laser itself is on its way out or, first port of call, lens/mirrors.
Any thoughts? I know the costs are high so we are weighing up the possibilities at this point in time.

You would probably be able to see damage on the mirrors and Len’s if there is any.

A service on the laser may be worth doing. We could measure the laser power before the optics and through them.

The worst case would be you need a laser recharge but it would be worth doing.

Yep the mirror (magnetic one) on the left has misting and colour change on the surface (from gold to bronze colour where distressed by the laser. The lens on the right has what I can only describe as a cataract effect on the surface. both cannot be cleaned to clear the problem.
How expensive is the recharge on the Laser? does anyone have any ballpark figures please? It would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. :D
