Machine pauses, bangs and crashes into end limit

Post by Denford Admin » Thu 21 Dec , 2006 16:15 pm

We have a brand new DELL Dimension C521 and are having problems with the USB communication to our VL300

During a raster scan, the machine will pause, then continue.
Then there may be a bang / knock, then it will continue.
At the end of the cut, the head will run into the front of the machine - instead of going to the park position.

We have now had a couple of these Dell PC's not communicating reliably through any of the USB ports.

We fitted a low profile Hi Speed PCI USB card to the computer, and used those ports to connect to the machine - this has solved all issues.

We are investigating with DELL as to why their USB ports are not reliable
- my guess is that there may be some power saving features on the motherboard, interfering with the continuous USB data transmission to our machines (both Versalasers and our desktop CNC machines)

In the meantime, either fit a PCI USB card, or try a different computer.
