Hi,
I am having a problem with our VLS3.50 in that it is connecting to the PC, it is powered up but on pressing the activate laser, it lights up initialising and nothing happens at all.....it doesn't flash green, it turns grey and static. It sometimes shows door open, even though the door is closed!
Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Tracy.

Hi Tracy,

Check that you have 240 volt to the machine. The kettle plug to the machine may just be loose.

Red light flashing on laser control panel, door is closed, although it says door open on PC/
The power lead is plugged in correctly.
The left hand door hinge does seem particularly loose, would this affect the signals at all?

The CPU powers up via the 5 volts from the USB lead of the computer so it is normal to see the lights & the door open message. The axis, laser cartridge & guard interlock then run from the 2 internal 48 volt DC power supply's which are powered directly from the 240 volts. You could check the 2 fuses in the kettle plug socket on the machine. It may be worth checking the voltage at the end of the kettle plug lead.

Fuses are all OK as is the kettle lead itself.

Everything is working up to the initialising, this is when it freezes or gives the' door open' message.

Can you move the slides or are the drives powered up?

Can you confirm that the kettle plug has 240 volts & is fully pushed in?

Kettle plug has 240v and is fully pushed in.
The left hand lid hinge is very ropey.....would this affect the functioning?

No I would`t think so.

Have you checked the 2 fuses in the kettle plug socket?

All fuses OK, battery new, USB cable new, Voltage checked and OK, machine all cleaned and vacuumed, software up-to-date, tried on a variety of computers......all hunky-dory up to the point of initialising, then nothing.........or door open message.......very bizarre!!!!

Can you try the latest version of software please? http://www.denfordata.com/downloads/Uni ... .57.46.zip

I know when you first had the machine there was a issue with it running using a USB 3 Port.

The USB cable is new and has been unplugged and plugged back in, it seems as if the signal gets lost from activating the engraver.

Can you get the IT to unplug the USB cable & remove the ULS software then re install it & connect the USB cable.

IT has uninstalled and reinstalled. It seems the laser itself is dead, it is not physically moving and making no noise at all......which it does when it is initialising!!!!
