Laser struggling to cut through 2mm MDF

Post by deannelord » Fri 06 Feb , 2009 10:57 am

Hi there, I am struggling to cut through 2mm MDF on the laser cutter (VLS 3.50). I have tried to change the settings to wood, and also back to acrylic but the machine still struggles to cut all the way through.

I have also tried to change the depth of material but this doesn't help matters. Also the wood gets quite burned in the process.

The laser is used in a school and I would say its used a couple of times a week but not continuous. Please can you help at all.

HAVE YOU CHECKED THE OPTICS ARE ALL CLEAN AND THE WATER TRAP ON THE AIR ASSIST IS CLEAR?

ALSO CHECK THE LASER IS IN FOCUS.

IT SOUNDS MORE LIKE THE OPTICS COULD BE DIRTY.

Don`t forget to check the beam window.(it`s in the back left hand corner) Check the optics in a good light.

MDF is harder to cut than normal wood so we use the acrylic setting normally for this. :!:
