Starmill RPM

Post by andy_con » Sun 25 Aug , 2013 17:50 pm

got a starmill with atc and the label on the side is different to the one I have without an atc.

the motor on this one reads 0.6hp and 0.5kw

the info sheet for starmill say max of 4000rpm but the denford software installed on the computer with this starmill says 5500rpm.

anyone shed any light on this?

I am unsure what you have exactly but the Software settings in both VR Milling 2 and VR Milling 5 by default set the maximum spindle speed of a Starmill to 3000RPM

The downloaded info sheets on the forum also state the motor is 1/3 HP.

Well on mines it's set to 5500rpm

Here's the label off the side of the cabinet

Have you put a tacho on the spindle to see what it actually runs at?

The spindle drive will work from a 0-10V analog and 10 V will give you the maximum the drive and motor can do.

The max spindle speed can be changed in the software from the setup menu. If you reinstalled the software by default it sets the maximum to 3000.

I haven't no, at some point I want to do a mach3 conversion and add spindle feedback.

I'll have to get a tacho and see.

But as the label on the side of the cabinet reads this doesn't seem these as other starmills

I tried to check the electrical records here but could not find your machine. I did find some from the same year and these had the standard Baldor 180VDC spindle motor fitted.

It may be worth looking at the motor.

Good Luck
