Guard Open Error

Post by Jeff Chandler » Wed 30 May , 2012 8:12 am

My 2600 has just started not homing at the end of programs. It starts, then stops three quarters of the back to the home Position. I machine a lot of CO2 Cars using a 4th Axis and sub calls.
The Error is 'Machine not safe close Guard.' The door is Shut otherwise the first program would not start.
Thanks

Sounds strange...I'm thinking it could be something is loose.
Maybe a loose wire or the door plunger... does the message appear when the spindle is stopping / machine vibrating at a certain position ?

The spindle has stopped.
It is when the router is returning to the home position home. Once a program has finished.
It is like the machine sensors that the guard is open, but it is not.
Can the door be opened when the router is in between a sub_call program?

Thanks

In theory the door can be opened a few seconds after the spindle has stopped.

Has the guard switch been rewired or changed recently ?
If not then it is probably that the door lock solenoid is just about holding the door plunger in place, but when the spindle stops and the guard unlocks, then the plunger may be bouncing slightly out of position and opening the guard switch (triggering the guard open message)

Try holding the door plunger in firmly at the end of the program.
You could also remove the plunger from the door and push it in while running the program(s), if it then works OK you need to see why the plunger is not fully engaging when the window is closed..the bracket may have been strained or there may be some debris on the holding magnet ?

Thanks so much for your input and quick reply.
I tracked the problem to a faulty on/off switch.
A easy replace and fix.

Cheers

Was that a faulty guard switch ?
What happened to it...maybe it's something we can improve on ?

I think the on/off switch got dust in it. It was starting to make an 'arc sound' as the machine was manually being turned of at the end of the day.
Over the past six years your machine has worked faultlessly.
I have been cutting balsa CO2 cars. Lots of them 5 a day for the past two months. So lots of fine dust.
There are audible clicks when the machine homes as the door unlocks and locks again as the program starts.
Changinging this switch has fixed the problem.
