Original stepper wiring

Post by lsteele » Fri 28 Sep , 2012 16:11 pm

Hi,

Can someone tell me which wires on my original orac stepper motors should be paired together for parallel bipolar operation, and which of these pairs is A+, A- etc?

I tried using the method outlined here (http://www.piclist.com/techref/io/stepp ... attery.htm) to identify them, but the trouble is I don't get the same pairings as were originally tied together on the plug at the end of the stepper cable (I made a note when I stripped it). Foolishly I connected the stepper using the pairings I'd identified to a picstep I'd built and promptly blew up one of the driver ICs (lmd18245 - expensive!).

So I want to make sure I've got everything right before I destroy anything else.

Any help is gratefully received!

Thanks,

Luke

What are the colours of the motor wires and how many leads are there?

There are 8 wires. The colours are

Red
Black
Orange
White/orange
White/red
Yellow
Black/grey
Yellow/white

And the original pairings were

Red & white/yellow
Yellow and white/red
Orange and black/grey
Black and white/orange

But I don't know what these pairings are (A+, B- etc), and I'm a bit perplexed I didn't identify the same pairings when I went through the method I linked to above.

solid and splits are the coils, so black and black/white are one coil...and so on for all four colours.
I'm not sure which two to pair for a and b, but i'll try to figure it out.

black - black/white
red - red/white
yellow - yellow/white
orange - orange/white

Hi Angel-tech,

Thanks for your earlier post. Just wondering if you'd had any luck identifying pairings?

I'd of thought this was a readily available piece of information, since presumably anyone upgrading an orac needs to go through this if they're using the original steppers? Can't find any mention of it though!

Thanks,

Luke
