x axis homing problems

Post by jonnydeen » Tue 10 Sep , 2013 13:27 pm

since moving my novamill from a temporary position to a more suitable bench yesterday i've had problems homing.
y and z operate as normal but x seems to be stuck at a snails pace (circa 50 mm/min.)
what's more, once it has finally reached the home switch it just continues on leaving me to use the e-stop.
after resetting the e-stop it continues to do so, even when i disconnect machine in vr
i have even tried running it on another computer and still get the same issue
any ideas on this one?

It sounds like you have a problem with the harting plug. If you disconnect the electrical box from the machine you should be able to see if a pin has pushed back in or is bent.

had a look at the harting connection, all pins appear straight.
i did have a look at the seven segment display on the control card, and it shows a H when the x axes is attempting to home. y and z display an 8

What version of VRMilling are you using?

Can you use the secret home button & check you can jog the axis correctly?

i am using vr milling 2.3
secret home button? i wasn't aware of one.
i have been able to jog once the homing process timed out and it seems to work as normal.
think il go fire up the multimeter and test the home switch and harting plug for continuity

i truly am thankful for you taking the time to help me sort this

Is the datum switch stuck in?

long story short, went to check the datum switch and noticed the pin had snapped. found a new switch online for £9 inc p&p and received it this morning. now the machine is back up and running :D

for reference, i replaced the fitted burgess V3S 1009 3M with a burgess V3S-UL as a direct swap

thanks again for taking the time to help
