Router motor behaving erractically

Post by Paul Wilson » Wed 02 Aug , 2006 5:25 am

Router motor on our microrouter compact is doing some funny things. Making some unusual noises (high pitched screeching) and appears to be revving up and then slowing down erratically. Could this be an indication that the bushes need replacing or a dead motor?

The Router spindle motor brushes are consumables, try removing them and check the commutator shaft i.e. look down the brush locator holes and see if the commutator shaft is a shiny brass colour (OK) or if it is dirty (i.e. carbon build up) then the brushes need replacing.

Blue arcing flashes will also indicate brush wear

Also ensure that the spindle motor "Kettle Plug" is firmly located in the socket
