Microturn Fails to connect with USB

Microturn 2000 - 2006
VR Turning v1.19 & v1.16
Microrouter Pro - 2006
VR Milling v5
Dell computer - stand alone, dedicated with internet access
Windows XP

Using the computer with the Microrouter Pro everything works fine.
When the USB cable is unplugged from the router and plugged into the Microturn, a RS-232 error pops up. There is a solid green dash in the control card's LED diplay. Fuses have been checked and/or replaced and tried plugging the USB cable directly into the control card. We have tried VR Turning v1.16 and v1.19 and have tried connecting to the Microturn with VR Milling v5 expecting a "wrong machine" error, but there is no connection - "RS-232" or "Baud Rate Number Unsupported" error pops up.
We have tried "uninstall" and re-installing VR Turning several times.
Tried to use Easy Upgraded, no conection.

Any suggestions on what to try to get the Microturn to connect.

Hi,

A dash is normal on the 7 seg display. Indicates the Mint is running.

It sounds like the turn could have old firmware or comms software.

Would concentrate on easy upgrader.

If you check the machine does it find the controller?

In easy upgrader you could try "force firmware" that would configure things correctly.

If you cannot get a connection using force firmware then I suggest you try workbench.. do a search for controllers the configure as required.

If workbench cannot find it then replace the top card.

Workbench does connect successfully on usb to node 1.
Where would I find the workbench project/file or configuration settings to reset the card?

By default we use node 2 which is why the controller cannot be found.

Once you have selected new project and then searched for controllers then the controller has been found (which is the state you are at).

If you click on the controller it has found (so it is highlighted) you will see another option box apear to "configure" from here you can set it to node 2.

Once that is done close Workbench then run easy upgrader and the control should be found.

The usual resaon that a card would be set to node 1, is if it has been supplied as part of a Mini-CIM.
This is where 2 or 3 machines can be run simulatenously from one PC - does this ring any bells ? :?

If the software is not told to be looking on node 1, then it will never find the machine - the node is the unique control identifier (otherwise, if you plugged in two USB cables, how would it know which was which ?)

It looks like only VRMilling 5 allows the node number to be changed - VRTurning must always connect to node 2

Customer writes back......

I figured workbench out. The workbench software assigns the 'node' number to the controller. The turn was set to node 1. I reset it to node 2 then easy upgrader and turning software worked just fine. I'm back in business.

FYI...we have had a number of power surges recently. Our HVAC controllers and security system all experienced the same loss of connectivity and settings.
