Tool Orientation

Post by BMellor » Mon 12 Oct , 2009 16:58 pm

I have been looking at quick turn tool set up and our lathe tooling set up. Our technician reckons we have tool one and that it has a left hand kink rather than a right hand one as stated in the tooling menu ?
As the chuck rotates anti clockwise we have put the tooling tip in so that the workpiece is cut by the top of the tip. Therefore we have put tool 3 in so that we can face off the end of the bar
Can you confirm for me which way round tools 1 & 3 go please

All the tools in the turret should be inverted (the tip downward)

Tool 1 will be the turning tool and will angle towards the chuck

Tool 3 will be angled away from the chuck and is used for back turning

Watch the following video to see the tool positions and orientation :D

Hardware/Software: Go to User Control Panel > Profile
Enter as much information about your CNC hardware and software as you can - it makes it easier for everyone to know what you're talking about then.

This should clear up which is Left hand or Right hand turning tooling:
