Live Tailstock MT3 to spindle nose adapter

Post by dazz » Thu 30 Jan , 2014 9:41 am

Hi

Just something I have made with my lathe.

At one end is a No.3 Morse Taper that fits into the tailstock.
At the other end is the same thread used on the headstock spindle.
In the middle are two Timken taper roller bearings.

The bearings are protected by seals to prevent any contamination getting in.

With this adapter I can mount 3/4 jaw or ER32 collet chucks on the tailstock to hold pipes, centreless bar or odd shaped work.

I found I was able to get within 0.0002 inch of target diameters. Such accuracy was necessary to get proper bearing fits.
