Please can anyone assist?
I have obtained an ex school Viceroy lathe. model TDS 1/1G/S/L serial number 21560
There is a lot of play (backlash) on the cross slide due to wear on the nut.
Please has anyone or does anyone know where I can obtain a spare or have a new nut made?
The lathe is in quite good order except for this and I wish to use it to for model engineering. Many thanks

There was a guy on eBay who was making nuts for various lathes.

The cross slide screw is 1/2" diameter 2.5mm pitch LH modified square section thread which means that it is almost square with just 5 degrees flank angle each side. You'd have to either grind a tool to turn a nut or make a tap to suit.
Another option is to make a nut from delrin, following the instructions here:
