Re: Novamill control box fault, duff power supply??

Will check which way I've connected it up next time I'm in the workshop. However from memory I actually connected the 24v via the AC transformer end of the loom so as to include the breaker / fuse in the card logic supply loop. I also made sure the +24v line went via the breaker. Not sure which pin ...

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...

OK I'll check to see if the link is fitted, I know the estop switch is fine as the machine works perfectly with my original (1999) control unit, its only the spare one (2001) thats not playing yet. For my education on NVM-D10, does the little arrow on the core either side of the E Stop Contact denot...

Jogging run away... eeek!

setup - XP and USB RS232 dongle with VR Milling 2.08 on laptop I've had some really good results with this setup for a while now, but recently I've had a couple of disturbing events where when using the cursor keys on my USB keyboard to jog the mill around it'll lock up and the mill will keep on tra...

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...

Oh and I've also spotted that the jumpers bottom left of the card (J1 & J2) are different for the two boxes. Any thoughts? Enable pot and autochanger?

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...

OK, some progress to report, the DC mod worked perfectly, but she still wont power up the machine unles you manually move the ESR relay test switch. After taking the connector apart it would appear that the machine connector is wired up differently on the 2001 control box compared to the 1999. I've ...

Re: Novamill control box fault, duff power supply??

Finally got back to this, the 24v DC mod worked a treat and now the unit powers up perfectly.

Thanks

Re: novaturn atc motor gearbox dying

OK Steve Thanks, I'll strip it down and give it a lube and see what happens. It's sounded a bit rough since i bought the lathe, but with turning it over alot to fix the issues with the position sensor disk it's now really squealing and vibrating. I've only adjusted the tool height once and did it wh...

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...

OK both are definitely novamill boxes as they look the same and the part number plates are consistent. I have a 1996 novaturn and the box is smaller and different inside albeit it may be an earlier model. I've got the 24dc logic mod to do (see previous topic) which may fix the issue, so I'll do that...

Re: Novamill control box fault, duff power supply??

OK thanks I'll do that on both as my origonal box still has the logic on AC and its reading 29.3v. Prha[ps that was why it was hanging at 5 on startup... and not the safety relay.

Help much appreciated.

Re: Novamill control box fault, duff power supply??

The transformer just has the three tappings, 110v (as marked), 30v (marked 28), 30v (marked 28). As you mentioned it above can I use a separate 24v DC supply to the card and if so do I need to worry about polarity across the pairs of pins 4&5 (logic) and 1&2 (drives)? I assume they both have to be t...

novaturn atc random tool selection... fixed!!

OK just a short post to help anyone else who has had issues with the atc not moving to the correct tool number. Having removed the ATC and investigated the end furthest from the tool holder it appears that position is detected by optical pickups reflecting of metalic and matt black tracks on a rotat...

Re: Novamill intermittent sticks at S on startup...

Thanks Martin.
Having given the relay switch a good wiggle to cycle the contacts a few dozen times i've not had a problem since, guess it was just a sticky relay or dirty contacts.

Spare Novamill based station wired differently...

OK, the saga continues... Still trying to get this spare control box up and running. Having had a good root around inside following cores I've noticed there is a load more i/o connections on the spare control box compared to the current one running my machine. Re: Novamill control box fault, duff power supply??

Thanks for the pointers admin, so OK is not a power problem then, power across 4 & 5 30v ac, and 1 & 2 30v ac when safety relay switch is made. Also now its had a bit of time it seems to only have an issue booting if you have it running then turn it off then turn it on again too quick befor the resi...

Novamill control box fault, duff power supply??

Hi, I've picked up an unwanted novamill control box for spares for my machine and it seems to me that the power supply is duff. When you power it up nothing happens but if you flick the master power supply switch the intermittently off the resultent spike allows the control board to run up and sit a...

Re: DOS software Fanucl , Fanucld , Fanucsld etc.

For the record it seems that with FLSTEP you can get the SW running connected to a novamill, then turn off the mill and as long as you dont switch to a machine control mode the SW will run fine.
