Re: Orac Programmed from Laptop & Associated Wiring Connecti
I've got lots of 'projects' on the go but all thwarted by trying to recover from shoulder surgery a few weeks ago. Hospital appointments, physio, pain killers, frustration at limited movement/ability, having to do everything wrong handed and taking so much longer than it should. Hence having the tim...

Re: Spindle control help please
Not sure on the connection to other control gear but (I may be wrong on this) I'm sure the speed controller has a 10v, 0V and an input. You could wire the spindle override from the front panel with one side at 10v other side at 0v and wiper on input. to give you an element of control. I think it is ...

Re: ATC locking up.
Machine is a Starturn 5 so no cooling option, Centre height is spot on, I spent quite sometime ensuring this is correct, I've been working through all the tools to ensure no nipple on a face off, starting low and adjusting the pawl a fraction after each pass. Material is steel of unknown grade. What...

Parting off code goes to deep/ignoring tool profile
Hi, Bit of a worrying find within the operation of the program. Producing G code files in QT2DD I have found that it ignores the parting tool profile. The definition in the tool library states max part Dia is 30mm. This is definitely the physical limit of the tool, I have checked it. Producing drawi...

Re: Orac Programmed from Laptop & Associated Wiring Connecti
Just sorting out and organising some files on the computer and found this from when I was working out the wiring for my lathe. I got it from here at some point and It is probably what you have already.

Re: Orac Programmed from Laptop & Associated Wiring Connecti
Ok the computer should be fine, you need to remember it is old but not as old as the Orac. The 15way is for an external screen 25way is the parallel port (or printer port) the 9 Way is the RS232 port and what you need to use. Now RS232 is a real pain in the backside and I hope you have an easy time ...

ATC locking up.
I'm having trouble with the ATC on the starturn 5 locking up. I can use any of the tools fine selecting and rotating them until I use the parting off tool. If the tool starts to bind/chatter this cause the problem. When I try to select a new tool after this has happened I can here the motor change i...

Drilling boring holders for ATC
Just trying to get the drilling/boring set up on my Starturn 5. I'm trying to make holders/collet for the tools to fit the ATC. So far I have turned a 19 dia x 20mm bar and drilled at 5mm for a centre drill. I then slotted one side and fitted it to the ATC, I had thought that the clamping screws wou...

Setting boring bar tool offset.
Hi I'm just at the point of setting up a boring bar in my Starturn 5 which is DOS controlled. I have everything else set up no problem following the instruction from P50 in this PDF http://www.denfordata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=953 I am however unsure as to how I need to set up the for the borin...

Re: Orac Programmed from Laptop & Associated Wiring Connecti
There is a manual on here somewhere, I dloaded it years ago that has the pin out but I believe you need a lead connected as follows.
9way - 25 way
1 - 8
2 - 3
3 - 2
4 - 20
5 - 7
6 - 6
7 - 4
8 - 5
9 - 22
9way - 25 way
1 - 8
2 - 3
3 - 2
4 - 20
5 - 7
6 - 6
7 - 4
8 - 5
9 - 22

Re: Orac Programmed from Laptop & Associated Wiring Connecti
HI, I very much doubt the laptop has a 25way RS232, that will be a parallel port, The way you can tell is that the connector on the laptop if Parallel will be a female (like the 15way video connector) RS232 is Male, It would more likely have a 9way for the RS232. I can't remember ever seeing a lapto...

Re: Unable to set a positive offset value in the X axis.
This sounds a bit like an issue I had with the Micromills in work. There is no feedback re position, once the travel has hit the home switches the machine knows where it is and just sends the info re number of steps, if for some reason it misses or gains a step then it will be that much out. The pro...

Cheers for the heads up on Aiexpress, I could get lost looking through that lot!!
Ive not got a bog bone, mine has the tips you just push in. I like the idea of the ER16 holder. Need to check the dia of the holes in the ATC

Re: 2D Design V:1.26
Yes it is re the default locations for the tools. My starturn 5 has a 8 position rotation turret as per the ones you see on other machines, odd numbers for external turning even for internal/boring. In the original design software (lathecam designer) you could only install 6 tools and I couldn't fin...

Re: 2D Design V:1.26
Glad to see this making head way. It has given me some info re the set up of the ATC, has the tooling locations always been that? I'm going to get my Starturn 5 full functioning soon so it would be good to know.

Re: 2D Design V:1.26
to open the files, download, right click on them and select 'open with' and select either wordpad or notepad. they are just text files but have .fnl as the file extension. if they work and you can follow the way I set them up then when it comes to the tool locations, can't you just use the alternate...
