Threading auto knock-off

So - finally I've had a moment to take a look at the threading auto knock-off arrangement. A note first - I've not actually used this feature - or indeed this lathe - I bought it a couple of years ago, but a couple of job changes and a house move half way across the country have meant that I've not ...

Re: New (to me) 250.

Richard,

I'll be sure to take some pictures - won't be after the end-of-year break now - I want to tidy a few points up on the old machine before selling it - I'll take some pictures then.

New (to me) 250.

So - I bought the machine - very pleased with it, it seems in excellent condition, and seems to have done very little work. See how clean the motor compartment is! 550W motor (3/4hp) so the 1hp inverter I bought as a good price "for Justin" will do the trick very nicely. One question though - it doe...

Re: Surfacing feeds - easy to fix?

So - I've taken the plunge and bought the machine - it'll be delivered mid/end of next week.

Pictures etc.. as soon as!

Anyone want a (mechanically fine but cosmetically challenged) TDS 1/1 GBL ? That's my old machine.

Surfacing feeds - easy to fix?

Hi all. A quick question - I'm considering buying a 250 Tds1/1 that I've just been to see - in basically *excellent* condition, no wear that I can see anywhere, scraping/frosting marks visible all over the place (where they should be!), and very clean without having been powerwashed....! Only one th...

Re: Hi from a Newbie and some questions.....

I guess the only difference is in metal removal rates possible - or is that just a simplistic view? I was planning on a 1HP unit or thereabouts (mostly because I have a spare suitably rated invertor.....), and I'm not light industrial by any stretch  What seems weak in the case of the 3/4HP...

Re: Slotted cross-slide.

Andy,

Thanks - that would be really useful - I've started to draw up what I think would be the right thing based on what I've measured from by current top-slide, but knowing what the dimensions were originally meant to be would be even better!

Cheers,

Youra.

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1GB Factory Taper Turning Attachment

Thanks Dazz - I think I should be able to manage - I'll get back to you otherwise! The only reason for machining the mounting pads a little is to make sure they are perpendicular to the bed so I can mount the support arms without the casting draft angle throwing things out of square, although I gues...

Slotted cross-slide.

Hi. I've just stumbled across this lathe on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290733442231 The interesting point (to me at least) is this: cross-slide.JPG Which shows a slotted cross-slide. Was this a standard item, or has a previous user adapted the original cross slide? I've seen that Dazz's machine...

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1GB Factory Taper Turning Attachment

Thanks for that drawing Andy I think it's clear enough that I'll not need the sub drawings to brew something up of my own that follows the general idea, although I guess posting them so there's a record here would hurt nobody ;-) Dazz - I've looked carefully, and there are no tapped holes anywhere n...

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1GB Factory Taper Turning Attachment

Hi. It seems a well thought out copy/taper attachment - rare though - there's a machine on eBay ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150836543864 ) at the moment which seems to include most of one. My recently acquired machine does not seem to have any of the attachment points - either on the bed or on the c...

Headstock / bed alignment.

Hi all. I'm giving my new (to me!) machine (TDS 1/1 GB) a good strip-down and clean. One thing I'm wondering about is whether to take the headstock off entirely - on other machines (a Boxford, for example) I wouldn't have hesitated, but in this case I can't immediately see how the spindle and bed ax...

Re: Hi from a Newbie and some questions.....

Thanks Pete. As well as that rating plate, I've also had a reply from a third party selling a Viceroy of the same vintage as mine on eBay with these motor details: Hoover type 2543haf1633b Rating/machine cycles 50 amps 1.4 volts 400-440 horsepower 3/4 phase 3 rpm 1425 I've not been able to conjure u...

Hi from a Newbie and some questions.....

Hi all. Happy owner of a new (to me at least!) Viceroy lathe - there are some pictures at: https://picasaweb.google.com/youra.turceninoff/DenfordViceroy Currently just how it arrived, without any cleaning. The name plate is missing, but as far as I can tell, it's a TDS 1/1 GB (metric) - does that so...
