The spindle should run at the programmed speed unless you program below 8000RPM in which case it runs at 8000. This is to maintain cooling to the motor. You are saying that the speed is 60% of programmed. Can you see the spindle override display? What is displayed on the override? It should go from ...

While steppers can have problems with resonance and if they stall you loose position its not all bad! If the stepper is designed correctly and running within its step frequency the machines are extreamly acurate and reliable. A stepper motor will be in position to within 0.8% of a step all the time....

If you have VR Milling 5 then there is a Drawing Import (DXF) that will accept DXF files from Techsoft. :?: This import will allow you to follow the line, machine inside or outside of the line. This will let you make whatever you want and is much more intuitive than the older Techsoft post processor...

Thats a good demo!

With a machine tool we have to run the steppers throughout the speed range at all frequencies.

The loading on the motor damps out the resonance to a point where no steps are lost (hopefully).

If stalling occurs it can be because there is too much load or too little.

Are you using Techsoft 2 D design? If so if you select some text then go to properties you will see that the text has an outling and a fill. If you select NO FILL you will then be able to see the vector outline (which is the path the cutter follows) The contour option can be found in the Draw menu d...

I think that the problem you are trying to resolve can be done in a different way. The problem is that when you look at a letter in techsoft the letter is made up of an outline and a fill. The tool path will try and follow the outline and so make two passes and give you close to double width. By try...

Select Simulation then Billet materials. Change the resolution to fine. This will slow down the simulation but improve the pictu...

Printers and plotters tend to run at fixed speeds per axis so the frequency issues can be avoided. also due to the low load the stepper motors have a lot lower current and size than those required to move a machine.

Stepper motors do have resonance bands at some frequencys that result in variations in the torque available. This would cause a problem cutting an arc as the each axis would have to pass through that frequency at some point. The Resonance bands are minimised by the type of motor connection (parallel...

I do not quite understand what you are trying to do. Are you drawing the circle or using the Pallet? If you are talking about adding a pallet feature you import them in a parallel plane to the active plane. If you want it to be imported at an angle to the base create an offset plane at the angle you...

INTERMITTANT ENGRAVING

A customer has called with a problem with a Versalaser. The unit is about 18 months old. He is trying to engrave a chess board on glass sheet. As the laser rasters over the squares it starts off OK. After engraving about 5 mm of the squares the laser stops marking the material for a 1mm strip then r...

The trick to getting rid of the ridge is to adjust the Y offset by half the size of the ridge.

This is because the error shows up an both the machined sides and so doubles up.

Once the Y offset is set and does not create a ridge write it down and dont move the fixture again.

No the demo version only lets you work with the demo program.

The software demo is intended to let customers look at the functionallity of the software.

If we let the software simulate any program then no one would buy the full version.

Once the machine has been homed you should not have to home it again unless you have stalled the machine causing a loss of position.

You do not need to home out between setting offsets!

I would suspect that the toolpost is still used on some of the newer models. Can you measure the dovetail and size of the toolpost and advise?

If the toolpost has a name and number on it all the better.

Let us know then contact Denford Inc for the parts

The DXF import into VR Milling does not have any scaleing available. If it is coming in half size then it will be Solidworks that is scaling the model. :? I would check that the DXF is actually half size by loading it into another package such as Techsoft or corel draw and see what size it is there....
