Thanks for the input John.
I have a Biax scraper of my own, but not a flaker. The scrapers are hard enough to find but the flakers are hens teeth in the UK. The flaking on my machine was certainly done by hand.
Pete.

Re: Viceroy T.D.S 1/1 G.B - All finished
Hi John, and welcome. Thanks for posting, you just answered a question I had been asking myself this week. I just got a 5" Educator which is still faintly showing the half-moon frosting on the tops of the flat ways and I was wondering if that was 'factory' or done later by someone. I don't know the ...

Re: Apron Removal from a Synchro 280
The gears are easy to figure out. Count the teeth, add 2, divide by the diameter in inches.

Wanted - end gears for 5" lathe
I am looking for 18DP change gears for an older Viceroy Educator. 18DP 20PA is what mine measure at but I am missing a good few. Anyone have spares knocking around?

Re: Apron Removal from a Synchro 280
I can supply photos but I don't recall ever seeing a working drawing for the synchro apron.
Does it happen in both sliding and surfacing modes?

Re: Apron Removal from a Synchro 280
There you go a much more comprehensive reply. I would agree that the problem is more likely to be in the feed gearbox. Last time I had a feed problem it was a sheared key in the gearbox.

Re: Apron Removal from a Synchro 280
Dropping the apron is a matter of simply un-doing the allen bolts from the top of the saddle, the hard bit is getting it off the feed rod and leadscrew. I should think that the proper way is to slide it off the end, if you can get the end block off those shafts.

Re: PLEASE HELP - Missing RS232 Cable
If you know the pinouts and have a basic multimeter it's small effort to build a lead or chop a standard one up and swap/solder a few wires.

Re: New (to me) Viceroy 280 VS in need of TLC and a few bits
Well I don't think you're in too bad a place. The nut for the quick-change post is something that you can make quite easily, or someone could make one if you give dimensions for the tee slot and post bolt thread. The threading dial for metric will have three or four interchangeable gears. Really tho...

Re: New (to me) Viceroy 280 VS in need of TLC and a few bits
Hiya, I'm now current custodian of a rather neglected, ex-school, Viceroy 280VS. It's needing a fair bit of TLC (and some spare parts). I'm getting through the cleaning stage. She's mechanically sound underneath all the crud. Needs a rewire to take a VFD but I'm concentrating on the 'metal bits' fi...

Re: Sliding feed clutch and jamming gearbox....
You can't remove the shaft without drifting out the taper pin but you CAN get the pin out in place. You do have to be a bit careful with it though. Turn the shaft until you are viewing the narrow end of the pin. Drift it a tiny bit with a pin punch, you might want to bend a bit of metal and put it b...

I have this bit if it's what you want send me your address and I'll post it to you. You'll have to use bits from yours to assemble it though. I don't want any money for it.

Re: 280VS tumbler gear support wanted.
Hi John, When you are referring to the 'tumbler', do you mean the tumbler reverse on the back of the headstock or the quick-change tumbler with the long spline gear in the quick-change gearbox? If it's the one in the gearbox then the assembly is held together by tiny screws from the factory. If your...

Hi Rich,
No, there's no difference. You can get black or white Delrin (or brown I think). Mechanically there's no difference, I just happened to find a bunch of black discs for sale which were a suitable size.

Re: Bearing preload ..viceroy 280 vs
There's no seal on my rear bearings, the back of the taper rollers are visible if you loosen the clamp plate. There isn't anything on the front either on my machine, just the square recess in the back of the nose plate. I think it relies on the bearing to sling any grease towards the outside so it d...
