Re: Corrosion and rs232 performance
Hi Barry, I would suspect the chips are fine, but i would be concerned about the small traces that are pretty toasty as circled below. if there arent that many that are bad, you might be able to just run solder over the trace to make a track, or jump a little wire from point to point. Cant say for s...

Air chuck for novaturn
I have read somewhere that some of the fancy novaturns had a couple of pneumatic goodies, I am interested in attempting to get an air chuck working on mine in conjunction with a bar puller to make a semi autonomous machine. Im pretty far out from that point, but I was hopeful to find some info about...

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep
While investigating, it seems the "spindle on" command will simply turn the spindle on to the minimum speed defined under "machine parameters." In my head I beleived the front spindle speed would adjust the speed between the minimum and maximum speed, but in reality, it scales the speed around the m...

Everything seems to work great! I will be wiring in everything this week, and i will be able to do some testing next weekend!

Re: Odd interactions between VR turning and VR milling
So after a few other attempts I tried this: Install and got Vr Milling functional and connected, then install VR Turn in a different directory. I used Program files(x86)/Denford for Vr Milling, and Program Files(x86)/Denford2 for Turning. I dont know if the files are overwriting each other when inst...

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep
So the swap was a success for the lathe, and mostly a success for the mill! (don't have spindle speed control yet on mill) I will be investigating this week.

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep
good question! I have not tried to use the motor with it on there, in this case I was using it to check runnout, then stuck it to the cabinet shortly after!

Re: Adding a 4th axis to micromill
Yeah, i was actually wondering if there were more settings than what are accessible to change under machine parameters? If not I think i can just take some pictures of the micromill parameter pages, edit the novamill to match, and then select novamill as the device. No need to even open a .mex. That...

Odd interactions between VR turning and VR milling
So for background: I have freshly swapped a novaturn with a denstep card and a micromill with a nextstep card. Vr milling v5 works great on a fresh install, can connect to mill and jog. Now when Vr turning is installed, is when things get complicated. I could connect to the novaturn, and home it, bu...

Re: Adding a 4th axis to micromill
So if you were thinking that this seems to easy--> you were right... I was able to get the mill jogging with the nextstep card, and i was getting pretty excited that it was going to be easier than I thought. When I went to enable the 4th axis, I was unsurprisingly hit with the error pictured below. ...

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep
good call on just having separate mouse and key pads... I would be able to get rid of most of the arm's bulk then, and I am a big fan of that idea.

Re: Adding Mist Sprayer to Micromill
Thanks TDI, I would do flood if it wasn't so much work lol. After doing all this, I'm not sure it really would have been much more! perhaps The novaturn will get the flood treatment.... it has the perfect container for it

I think I will be doing a fair bit of documenting haha. I am going to be adding some features and such that hopefully others find useful.

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep
I have not used Danish oil, from what i have read, it sounds like it dries to a hard finish? that sounds pretty nice for a work bench. I have been trying to decide if i can trust wireless devices for controlling, I would love to use a wireless mouse and numpad like you mentioned, but I'm just terrif...

Adding Mist Sprayer to Micromill
Another addition to my little machine. I purchased a little mist cooling system off of amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KR1VFTT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Simple Unit, and there are much cheaper versions, but i wanted to have full control of it when the cabinet door...

Adding a 4th axis to micromill
I have already initiated this project, but figured I would document what I have done thus far with some pics. I was able to snag a sherline rotary table off of ebay for a pretty good deal. It had a stepper and an encoder on it, but i opted not to keep the encoder, as it has its own set of difficulti...

Running Old VR Turning on Windows 10
That is the goal here. Just documenting this because I seem to forget everything each time I try, and just remember that I thought I couldn't. This leads me to attempting again. Discs I have: >Version 1.7 VRTurning (I have only ever tried to install this) >Version 1.4 VRTurning >Denford Software Lic...

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep
Thanks Pete! I have made some updates since then, namely to the PC. in attempts to modernize haha. I was able to find an old monitor arm for a crt, so i am mounting all my peripherals on that. It allows me to pull the monitor, keyboard, and mouse right up to the machine Im using! Im pretty excited a...

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep
In case anyone ever reads this and needs to know: The pots for overriding speed and feed are both hooked to the controller board. This is for the Novaturn NS as well as the micromill 2000. I plan to update this thread with details of the switch once I have them. Something as simple as swapping cards...

Re: Schematic Circuit Diagrams for the Novaturn
thanks martin,
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but the "control voltage" on the machine tags just refers to the component voltage outputs, not the operating voltage of the the control card itself, correct?
