Re: Micromill is going to kill me!

Hi. When you say you are struggling to go online. Does the computer find the machine and download the flash? Or does it come up with the message to check the power and USB connection. If this is the case it sounds like the machine is communicating but it may be an issue with the ratio. Can you detai...

Re: spindle causing steppers to jog

No turning it down is better. if the motor over speeds it sparks creating noise.

If max RPM is not too much of an issue you may be better setting it at 2800RPM

Re: spindle causing steppers to jog

Hi If the spindle is running over speed by too much turning down the pot will will correct the RPM but as a lower voltage is creating the same top speed the current into the motor will increase. Various things can cause demagnetization. Over current, repeated stalling, over voltage and running over ...

Re: spindle causing steppers to jog

Ben, It does sound like an electrical noise issue. The spindle motor does not have an encoder fitted so the speed it's actually doing is set by the voltage. When the machines are tested the drive is tuned using an external tachometer to set the top speed. Do you have any way to check what the machin...

Re: Tool/Material definitions, what does these mean?

From the setup menu load a default tool library such as Turn 270PRO recommended. The material and tool library is imported then. To edit these again go to the options menu and then open tooling or materials. Do not edit the file manually but using the menus from the options. Tooling defines the geom...

Re: Setting boring bar tool offset.

Either set up the tool on an internal bore if you can or the simple way is to set it at the outside diameter of the bar and set it there. Then fine tune by boring a diameter then in the offset window click on the vernier symbol and enter the programmed and measured diameters so it corrects automatic...

Re: Problems with machining order

Hi, The problem is that the software only sees lines intersecting the center line as a parting cut. Your problem is that your parting tool would crash into the component if its larger than 30mm diameter. The simple solution is to just draw it as though it it could part off then edit the part off lin...

Re: Micromill losing alignment between layers diagnosis help

Hi. Just a quick note on here. The older machines with the Denstep controller cannot buffer moves so each line of the code is exicuted in turn. At the time the machine was built QuickCAM was not released and 3D manufacturing rarely considered. I suspect you are loosing steps as the machine is rampin...

Re: Scanmill queston

The machine will run on 50 or 60 Hz

Note it runs off an RS232 cable so you need a pc that has one or a USB to serial cable.

You also need to make sure you have software or you have to buy this.

Re: 2D Design V:1.26

hi, I think you may be getting a little confused as to the CAM requirements. The program generated by QuickTurn 2D design is the same regardless of whether a turret or manual tool post is fitted. The tool change line will read M06 then the tool number. The settings in VR Turning then tell the machin...

Re: Novaturn software V1.45

With the QuickTURN 2D you need to go to the "OPTIONS" MENU. Then select "Load Save machine tooling". Select Turn270_Tooling.MML this will load the default tooling to the QuickTurn with feeds and speeds that should be suitable for your Novaturn. The default tooling library is for a front cutting mach...

Re: Novamill - maximum spindle speed?

The bearings fitted will be the limitation on the speed. Without re engineering the head and fitting a matched pair of bearings I dont think you will go any faster. When engraving I would use say a 2mm ball end cutter and only go 0.1mm deep. This gives a nice finish with a stronger tool and you coul...

Re: Do Not PAT test... Why?

Hi. You can do the visual pat test but be carful not to do the insulation test to earth or you could damage the filters.

If machines trip the room RCB they generally have been PAT tested and mains filters destroyed.

Re: Do Not PAT test... Why?

Hi, If you read the Manual supplied on the VR Milling software there is a description of the reasons for this. The reason is that there are EMC filters fitted to the machine and in some cases the Spindle drive. These filters will inherently have earth leakage. If a PAT test is performed then permane...

Re: Damaged milling table surface

could you post a picture of the damage?

You could possibly machine a deeper pocket in the area where the damage is, then fit a steel plate into it. Pin that then skim it level with the table top?

Re: VR CNC Milling V2.3 - G42 Cutter Compensation Issue

You need to add a move to the code to make the tool move clear of the job before cancelling the cutter compensation. I am sure if you look in the help files it covers this.
