Cutting / Engraving tools

I'm after some advice on what tools people use and feeds/speeds. I don't have the PCB engraver but instead use a microrouter pro with the porter cable motor. A full board ~270x310mm is stuck down with lots of double sided tape to 18mm MDF, left overnight with about 15kg of steel plate on top! Next d...

Re: Adding a 4th axis to micromill

when I was testing the NS board I have to upgrade my Lathe, I just dropped it straight into my Mircorouter, VR did it's erasing flash thing on connection at it worked straight off for the microrouter. so the board just works on what it's told to do, obviously I didn't try rewriting anything for this...

I was looking at your pics again, I don't know if this could give you any issues in the future but you have a mag base DTI on top of a stepper motor, Wonder if the magnet could impact its operation.

Re: Adding a 4th axis to micromill

The guys at denford will know best BUT I wonder if you could use a Novamill or microrouter with 4th axis and just rejig the settings within those files to those of the micromill eg speeds and sizes.

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep

if using the same PC to control either machine there is no reason why you can't have a USB number pad and mouse at each machine and plugged in to the PC. I have a normal keyboard and wired mouse at the PC, a number pad at the machine (which has a USB hub so can plug a USB drive in easier than reachi...

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep

We used to have an arm almost identical to that back in the early 90s it was between me and another guy at work but we had the phone on it! I have become a huge fan of danish oil on wood, couple of coats with a roller and a wipe down :) I needed to do a quick shelf and couldn't wait for paint to dry...

Re: Running Old VR Turning on Windows 10

Great you have documented this, when I visited Denford the other year they were saying this is the reason they set up the forum, so they could document stuff like this so if customers ran in to issues they could see if it had been solved by others.

Re: "downgrading" from nextstep to denstep

If you go into the machine setup (denny) you can look at the parameters but i'm not sure if there is more to it than that.

Re: Thread cutting

Post up your G code file. Are you doing the design on LatheCAM designer? Which version of machine control are you using? I've done threading using Lathcam as the design package but my control is DOS based. (now have both Quick turn and VR turning but need to convert my control card over, car restora...

Re: Speed and Feed GUIDE for Denford machines

This had me wondering as I have the Mircrorouter Pro with a PC motor, I thought the Pro version was OK for alu but not steel. I would have thought putting filter cloth over the vents would have been OK. I use off cuts from the cooker hood filters in the kitchen for the fan filter, sticking them on t...

Re: Micro Router 2nd Hand

Steve knows his stuff! From a user point of view, I know a lot of people go for changing the control over to mach3 or similar rather than paying the money out for the denford software. However I have used denford software/control stuff for 18yrs or so, it is very straight forward, I have kids in sch...

Re: Please help juddering not homing

if you have the vacuum bed then a sacrificial 6mm sheet of MDF on top then your material the vacuum will apparently hold the material down as the MDf is porous enough to enable this to happen. We use 18mm either clamped to the X travel aluminum rails or on the vacuum bed, then several strips of doub...

With techsoft 2D design, if you do the text in the font you want (you can add more fonts in the normal way to windows, these should be picked up by techsoft on next load up. (night be worth finding a sign font with the supports) If you wanted to do engraving (V cutter on a single line rather than a ...

Re: My Novamill won't run

On the pic of the computer rear panel, the Purple 25way is not an RS232 port, that is a parallel port (unless you are referring to one that is not in the pic) The 2 9 way D type are the RS232, so you need to make sure you have them set up and can work out which is which. The one that you call Steppe...

Tony, Good to hear you're getting somewhere with suitable fuses, hopefully when all are replaced with appropriate ones all will be good. A few comments about TDIPower's comments the abbrevations DTE=DataTerminalEquipment, DCE=DataCommunicationsEquipment. These have caused issues for decades as a PC...
