Have you put the lever on the left back up to the top position?
Until you do that, the dial selector is locked.

Re: Feed speed chart
Correct - but that still gives you as good a range of feeds as you'll need for most jobs (as amateurs we don't need to optimise speed / feed rates) and a lot of the common metric thread pitches.Artysmarty wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct , 2019 13:16 pmDoes this mean I can only use the combination of feeds that has the D listed on the plate.

Re: Senior Vertical (knuckle) head - gear specs
I should have it somewhere but it's not scanned yet.
There is a whole bunch of useful large drawings that I was working through to repair so they won't snag as they go through the scanner. I'll see if I can find it.

As in attached picture - the stud with the stack of unused gears is circled lower left, and the stud gear in use is circled in the centre.

Re: Thread dial gear for 5" and Synchro
One has 28 teeth, the other has 30 teeth. The 28 tooth gear is needed to indicate correctly on pitches of 0.35, 0.7, 0.8, 1.4, 1.75 & 3.5mm. The 30 tooth gear is needed to indicate correctly on pitches of 1.25, 2.5. All other 'standard' metric pitches (<4mm) can be done with either gear. It's all in...

It's numbering is part of the toolpost drawings... and looks like some tooling associated with their manufacture.

Re: TDS 1 LS-Toolpost drawings
You're (mostly) in luck again! Posted at the bottom of this thread - http://www.denfordata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=2941&p=22986#p22986 I think ML 100/800A - 2way Toolpost may have been superseded by ML119. I don't think I've got any of the small size standard parts (SP) drawings - but that lever...

Note to any future readers - All inquiries for drawings related to manual lathes are best put on the Viceroy page - here.
They'll be noticed more easily there!

Re: Backplate thread?
Hi Youra, See my thread here . As mentioned there, various sources suggested up to 2% error will give a usable engagement. I would aim for 1% or even 0.5% - the headstock thread engagement is quite short (8-10 threads?). I've never actually tried it - do you have a bit of scrap to do a test thread o...

Re: Motor removal on Viceroy TDS
Gary, Single phase AC Motors have a start capacitor - these components can also fail, even quite 'young' (had one go on my garden shredder). This is a likely cause of the symptoms you describe. They are usually contained either in the terminal box or in a tube-shaped bulge on the outside of the moto...

Re: Motor removal on Viceroy TDS
Hi Gary, No brushes in Viceroy motors - they are all AC synchronous motors. What are the symptoms? Is it low on power, noisy, running unevenly? Has it been lubricated annually, as per the manual? Worth also checking the cables and connections - if a connection has become loose somewhere it can lead ...

Re: Viceroy TDS 6 Wood Lathe - What's it worth?
Hi Lorcan, Welcome to the forum. Putting values on machines is never easy - these long bed machines don't seem to come up for sale as often as the short bed bowl turners. I found a couple on Gumtree from earlier this year on your side of the Irish Sea - one at £200, which looked like a bargain, and ...
