Re: Happy New Lathe Day (Part 2!)

Can't help as my lathe has the oil filled apron and both leadscrew and feedshaft arrangement with the gearbox. My lathes serial number is 25735 and was one of the last before they produced the 280/synchro i believe. There are a lot of drawings available on this site that may help and Lathes.co.uk do...

Re: Happy New Lathe Day (Part 2!)

Hi, I have attached a brochure copy from about 1978 which seems to cover your lathe type, not sure of exact date as its not marked. Mine TDS1GB is from about then but has a square shape to the headstock - not sloped off as in the pic - if yours is 'squared off its a later lathe and yes mine has slop...

Re: Considering replacing intermediate countershaft Viceroy TDS 1/2 PCS

If you decide to keep the countershaft you may find the later adjustment system easier ? its on drawing ML100/600. My lathe is one of the last of the TDS models and has this arrangement. Basically the countershaft is milled such that it has two flats at each end - which is then forked to allow a fix...

Re: Viceroy vertical slide ?

Once again Andy many thanks for the drawings - really useful. I've had a go at stripping and cleaning mine up and its much better than it was. Looking at the drawing you uploaded mine appears to be slightly different - I've attached a mark up. I have the two screws on one side of the dovetail to tak...

Re: Viceroy Boring Table

Hi Andy, Many thanks for finding and uploading the drawings - much appreciated as I know how long these things take to find/sort. Was nice to find mine was correct and not missing anything from works. Well to close this one, I've added a third fixing to match the topslide i.e 90/135/135 deg set out....

Re: Viceroy Boring Table

Hi Pete, Agreed, I was only a bit off centre due to angle plate fixing holes etc but enough ! - as its really not secure enough currently to use at all. Looked at drilling the third hole today and understand maybe why it was left off - it would fall pretty much on the long diagonal so need a really ...

Re: Viceroy Boring Table

Hi Pete,
Yes I had thought about drilling a further 'peg' as per top slide, would be interesting to see Denfords original intent.

The idea of a bracket is one I had not considered - thanks - maybe a good plan !

Do you think the orientation in use matters as its mounting spigot is very eccentric ?

Viceroy vertical slide ?

I have this vertical slide which came with my lathe - it has a vice and small table which attaches via a dovetail spigot. It also has a register spigot that sits in the topslide tool holder tee slot. Does it look like a Denford item ? The problem I have with it is the slide is very difficult to use ...

Viceroy Boring Table

I have a boring table that came with the lathe which I believe is a Denford item, used it for the first time and whilst drilling from the headstock it rotated a bit and ruined the job ! The table replaces the top slide and fits over the upstanding dovetail spigot on the saddle, two hex grub screws p...

Countershaft drive belt tension.

I have a Mk2 TDS1/1GB late model and have problems with the tension of the 'Bramer' type belt. The handbook only notes to set at 'correct tension' and its not easy to get at through the motor door - my lathe is mounted against a wall and I seem to be suffering fron belt slip. This is I'm sure made w...

Re: VBiceroy 1.1 TDS GB Pulley size for vfd conversion

My motor was single phase and ISTR only 0.75hp.

I think you may take much heavier cuts than I do ! I think they also do bigger motors !

Hope it all works out for you.

Re: VBiceroy 1.1 TDS GB Pulley size for vfd conversion

Mine is mounted to the side of the motor door so no problem opening the door - just the angle of the pic. It covers over the opening where the old control panel was mounted. Can't find the details of what I ordered just now but I did check and specify the shaft diameter. My old motor was the origina...

Re: VBiceroy 1.1 TDS GB Pulley size for vfd conversion

Forgot to note that the torque is pretty much constant and whilst I've noted the speeds at set motor rev ranges it is obviously continuously variable through the rev range.

With out a doubt the worth fitting.

Re: VBiceroy 1.1 TDS GB Pulley size for vfd conversion

I did the conversion back in 2006 - does not seem that long ago ! I don't understand what you are saying about single pulleys - I have just replaced the motor using the 5 speed pulley originally fitted (4+1 for coolant if fitted). Mine is the CL750 with 1 horse power DC motor - looking at their webs...

Well I finally found time to get into the workshop (shed) today.

Hope its not to late for you with the dims.

As accurate as my old eyesight will allow !

Its a new programme called 'Sketch it up yourself' !

Your screw cutting .pdf looks very good - this is the plate I found.

Re: Fixed steady TDS1/1 GB

Not sure what dims you need, attached are a few pics of my fixed steady and a drawing of a travelling one I have found.

I could take some dims if you highlight what you need.

Are you in Uk ? I may have a spare screw cutting metal plate for a Metric box somewhere - need to check.

Richard.

Re: Viceroy TBS 1/1G/B metric threads

I've recently found this very useful site myself. I think if you scroll up 2 posts from yours currently 'ML drawings for 5" TDS1 lathes' - open it and scroll down to 'ML115 metric gearbox stud gears A-Q' it will give you want you need. There is another useful one currently 12 posts down from yours '...

Andy, Thanks for responding and for the drawning link - thats one I don't have. When you noted that Boxford had similar items, a search was simple - easy when you know what you are looking for ! Thanks again. Now sorted. Not sure if I should start another thread but I've got some screwcutting thread...
