Tool Setting

Has denford ever made a machine with a tool height probing feature? I would love if this were a feature, as it would save a fair bit of time when using er collets! Something like this to test continuity: http://www.yrcnc.com/product/cnc-tool-touch-off-probe/

Re: All new electronics

I definitely think the novaturn is a good base to make a very capable desktop machine, I have held some beautiful surface finishes on monel! Cant say I know how long an insert will last taking the cuts that I was, but the machine was as rigid as I could ever hope. Fortunately the inserts I use are d...

Re: All new electronics

Iron Man-
What is the control board on that beast? How are you planning to control your toolpost?

Re: All new electronics

How are you moving your tool post motor? If you have it connected so that you can control it with 1 pin, everything should be perfect. (ie, turning on arduino pin moves it forward, and it moves backward when not activated) Then the other 3 remaining pins can be inputs for the 3 optical sensors insid...

Also if you haven't already, hit the "subscribe topic" button below under the topic tools drop down at the bottom of the thread. The check box is inverted, but if it is unchecked, you will receive notifications to your email. Makes it easier to snag those sprint drive deals ;)

Re: All new electronics

Sounds like things are progressing nicely! I suspect that tool changes are not handled by GRBL simply because of the huge number of different ways that machines have changed tools over the years. I dont know what is happening behind the scenes, but I cant imagine it would be too crazy hard to add a ...

Re: Novaturn ATC blowing fuse on startup

Well I had hoped the fuse was just a higher value, but I have some good news haha, it is working with a .5amp fuse now. The fuse is glowing a very faint orange, but it has not blown haha! Something still isn't right, and I don't want to have a part fail because I bump my cabinet and jostle the fuse ...

Micromill - Sherline Tooling rack

Here is my most recent project, a Tool rack to hold all my Sherline end mill holders, as well as my 19 er16 collets, (10 metric 9 standard) as well as tommy bars, and hex keys. The holes at the top start at 1mm and increase in diameter by .5mm up to a max of 9mm. I have not printed the second versio...

Re: All new electronics

Definitely a lot to be said about the ATC, I am currently trying to diagnose a problem with mine blowing fuses and plan to make a circuit diagram. Inside the tool post turret there is a DC motor, and 3 sensors. The 3 sensors give a gray code feed of the current toolpost position. This 3 digit code i...

Re: Novaturn ATC blowing fuse on startup

thanks for that pete! I am really wondering what the fuse is protecting, and if it is before or after the transformer. If it is just before the motor, I will try just a slightly higher rated fuse, but if is before the trans, then I wont experiment with that. Guess I will take it off and make a diagr...

Re: Turn 270 and Novaturn Tool Post power supply

Hi Bradders, is this right about the fuse? my novaturn has a .5amp fast blow and the drawings call for it as such. I have been blowing a lot of them, so I am curious what the fuse is there to protect, and can I put in a larger one!

Re: Novaturn ATC blowing fuse on startup

Pete - I definitely understand how projects sometimes come along demanding all your time, space, and money! It sounds like the worse offending "project" is children, so I am frantically trying to collect all the tools and equipment I can before that! (although I think I've got a few years) What kind...

Re: Novaturn ATC blowing fuse on startup

just looked at the "origional" and it was a fast burn -F so that has worked for a long time with no issue, so i think it isnt quite as easy as fuse speed..... damn

Re: Novaturn ATC blowing fuse on startup

yeah, I'm not sure my drawings in my machine cabinet are the most up to date, but they didn't have any indication of burn speed either. for your retrofit, did you use the turret driver board? I ordered a couple toroids to wind the turret motor wire on, in the hopes of slowing the current spike, alth...
