Re: Gear module for Imperial gears

I could be wrong (it has been known!) but my memory from when I was cutting gears for my Denford Synchro, is that they were 18 DP (or might have been 16DP), but certainly not modular.

Re: Help with Viceroy Lathe

Sorry, what do you mean by 'runout'?. Its normally a phrase used to describe the amount a piece of work runs out of true when held in a 3 jaw chuck or collet. No 3 jaw is going to do much better than 0.003" runout, anything up to about 0.005" is generally held to be acceptable. If you need better th...

Re: VICEROY 280 SYNCHRO

Umm, the metric and imperial set ups use different quadrants and different gears. It isn't as easy as just swapping a few gears.

Paul
I've scanned BVS 110 400 but the site here doesn't seem to enable attachments. Are you sure its ML 100 402 you need, the drawing I've got references BVS 100 402.

Yes, I've got a 2 piece photocopy of BVS110 400. Was there anything in particular you needed to know?

Re: Feedshaft worm drawing wanted Viceroy PCS lathe

John isn't always easy to contact. He's on his own, so if hes working he won't answer the phone. Try early evening, or email him. Its well worth the effort.
Time was he used to go off mountaineering (big stuff, the Alps, Himalayas etc) but presumably thats not the case at present.

Scroll up about 2 spaces from this entry and you will see 'ML Drawings for TDSI lathes' Open that and scroll down until you see 'ML 105 and 110 drawings' Open that , and scroll though till you see ML110 308, followed shortly by ML 110 312. There are your drawings with full manufacturing details. You...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)

You seem very keen to do this modification, but why? Because it makes it easier to thread belts? You've threaded the belt now, so it will probably renewing in about 20 years? So you can see the spindle? Why do you need to see the spindle? All I can say is that if I was looking to buy a lathe, I'd wa...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)

My own opinion is don't cut a hatch in the top. Denford made the box headstock for rigidity, so don't alter it, unless you are happy with a lathe that might not perform as well as its makers intended.

The headstock arrangement and spindle lock drawing I've got for the TDS series lathes, ML100/100A, appears to show the sheet metal guard as ML100/125.

Re: Splash guard

Are you talking about the chuck guard, which hinges down over the chuck, or the splash back, the sheet metal item which fits along the back of the tray, behind the bed? The chuck guard usually can't be used with a 4 jaw chuck or the faceplate because they are too big. Where did you get the number ML...

Re: Viceroy 280 Syncro Back Gear shift problems

You could try getting the gear OD skimmed to remove the ovality, and hope that the clearance on the bottom of the teeth is sufficient. Or mark the high teeth and take 10 thou off with a fine file. Crude? Possibly, but it can't be worse than what you have now can it? Its not as if you are altering th...

Re: Viceroy 280 Syncro Back Gear shift problems

At one time there was a problem with the plastic gears expanding as they warmed up and caused binding, but this was resolved a very long time ago, by machining the gears with increased clearance. This should not apply to yours, being such a late machine. Incidently, I didn't know that Denford were s...

Faceplate for Denford 280 Synchro

Since I sold the Denford, I've got no further use for an 11" faceplate which I bought for it. Its got the D1-3 spindle nose fitting, and is much more capacious than the standard Denford faceplate offering. Its in good condition with no marks on it. I'm asking £35 collected from my house near Worcest...

Re: translation gear set for 280 synchro to cut imperialon metric lathe

Hi The translation gear set you mention is a complete unit comprising carrier, 127/135 gear and various other gears. The standard Denford set up enables you to cut most imperial threads from 4TPI to 28 TPI. I cut an additional 3 gears, 24T, 26T and 27T which extends the range up to 56TPI. The drawin...

Re: Synchro 280 lathe and accessories for sale

Hi Assuming that your Synchro has D1-3 spindle nose, then yes, my 8" 4 jaw will fit yours. Having been disappointed in the lack of interest in the lathe with all its equipment, I'm starting to sell off the bits separately, so the 8" 4 jaw, large faceplate, catch plate, fixed steady, travelling stead...
