Re: Denford Novaturn Conversion to Mach3

never done anything with Mach3 and it is a long time since i did anything with parallel port coms, I thought it used more than 3 wires. Are you assuming it is parallel due to it using a 25way D type? Denford originally used a 25way D type on the chassis for RS232 coms, TX, RX & Gnd. So could it actu...

Re: New to me Starturn 8 what to do?

I had to replace the gearbox on the drive motor on mine. Not sure if you have seen how they work, rotate at I think 24v, once on the correct tool the motor reverses at 12 v and holds against the pawl with the motor stalled on half voltage. In my mind stressing the gears. Think they moved to steppers...

Re: New to me Starturn 8 what to do?

Someone did do a strip and service on an ATC, There were 2 types, I think the earlier version had a single pawl, the later had 2 pawls. I seem to recall a worn pawl was resulting in inconsistency's in turret alignment.
Worth documenting and posting up when you do it.

Re: Denford Novaturn Conversion to Mach3

Hi, not sure you will find anyone on here to sort it. there are various other CNC/mach 3 sites that might be better out there. It would help if you posted up pics of what has been done to the machine with as much detail as possible. There have been people on here who have used elements of the denfor...

Re: Program Offsets changing by themselves

sounds to me like it might be binding on the travel and loosing steps. I'm not familiar with the VMC but on other machines there is no position feedback other than zero point switches, all it does is fires the steps to the motor and expects it to be moving. If it is binding on the travel it will ski...

For machine control Mill.. VR milling 5 if the control is late enough to run it if not VR2 or an eprom upgrade Lathe VR CNC Turning again I think if the control is late enough, unsure what there was between DOS and VR Turning. Re: New to me Starturn 8 what to do?

Just dropped in to see how things are going. Not well ATM but when I get chance I'll look see as it has been a while since i went through my old software box. I'm sure Martin will know better but the later windows control, there are 2 boards, bottom board has all the stepper driver and connections f...

Re: New to me Starturn 8 what to do?

even modern PC motherboards come with built in rs232, it is normally a standard header on the board but they don't include the plug to 9way d type for the back panel. I have a couple of dell optiplex that would be ideal to build up as they are pre i3/i5 gen quad core PCs, I have a Dos PC still set u...

Re: New to me Starturn 8 what to do?

Re: Work Area

Not over familiar with the compact but on the microrouter the motor mount plate bolts to a unit which travels up and down on the z guides. This has the z axis trigger on it so that stays the same. You are just moving the mount up or down on that. Ill try to remember to take a pic tomorrow. It might ...

Re: Slop?

Do you mean you can move the x in x on the lead screw? If so that would be slop or back lash on the lead screw or nut, i dont think there is other than a new nut. If you mean when x is centred you can grab each end of the bed and twist it then that would be the gib strips there is adjustment screw o...

Re: 2 mirac missing computers and software

To get the correct software you are best to deal direct with Denford, they would tell you what to look for on the machine and possibly have records of what it is spec wise so what it will run. Steve or Martin are your best bet. If you need computers to run them depending where you are i might have a...

Re: novamill stopped while setting it up for a job.

The battery isnt needed however it is possible a leak has caused some damage to the tracks of the board. Worth cleaning the board up (you could use some IPA) and inspecting for track damage

Re: Porter cable 86902 spindle

I have posted up the connection info for the sprint speed controller and other manuals in the starturn section as it is the same controller. The sprint outputs DC as far as i know and uses a 0-10v input to set the output. So the PC router runs DC on the denford machines. Don't trust the cable colour...

Not 100% on costs but i bought vr turning and i think it was about £250 £300. I'd get on the phone for a quicker response. There was a post recently from Steve (I think) about transfer of licences from owner to owner. So what to do if you have a licence and sell the machine. As far as i know the onl...

Re: Novamill Stepper motors dead?

If i remember correctly the steppers are direct on the lead screws on the novamill. With the machine powered down check you can freely turn the lead screws and try putting x y in the mid travel point. When you tell it to home it should home Z up to the limit switch them back off to clear it. This is...
