280VS

I'm still in need of the lower 'nylon' headstock gear/cog for the 280VS if anyone has one or could make me one.

Re: Viceroy 280 vs 3 phase with phase converter ?

I'm trying to run a Viceroy 280vs off a Clarke PC60 converter and the thermal cut out trips after around three minutes run time. The 280VS is the type with the joy stick. The converter is rated at 400/415v and 5.5hp. I'm using the 2.5hp setting but higher settings make no difference. Everything work...

Re: Viceroy 280vs

Well that was an easy fix! I had the phase wires round the wrong way  I now have a functioning machine, with digital display, but just a row of 0000. Could this be a faulty hall sensor I've read about? The joy stick operates the motor screw but no change in display I'm still looking for the ab...

Re: Viceroy 280vs

Many thanks for those Richard. You may have saved the day!
I've downloaded them and will study later.

Re: Viceroy 280vs

Hi, many thanks for your reply! Mine is the joy stick model and, I think, a later model.
A scan of the wiring diagram posted on here would be very helpful.
Mark.

Re: Viceroy 280vs

I've finally had some time to have a look at my lathe and, apart from the missing gears, it looks like I have an electrical problem. If I put power to it I get nothing on the display. All 3 phases are live and I have a good earth. I've bypassed the two safety micro switches (1 on the door and 1 on t...

Re: Viceroy 280 VS Lathe Manual

Which 280VS model do you have - manual variable speed (with handwheel mounted on front of stand) or electric (joystick on control box mounted above headstock)? I have the electrical schematic for the latter - will post a scan or give you the number for Admin to find - may be a couple of days though...

Re: Viceroy 280vs

Yeah 65 is the one that strips from changing the high/low speed with the spindle turning. I've made three so far but have no stock left to make any more. Thanks for confirming that Pete. It’s a shame you have none left but I’ll put an ad in the classified section. One other thing, I’m having a prob...

Re: Viceroy 280vs

I’ve done a tooth count on the nylon gear and I get it to 65, does this sound right?

Re: Viceroy 280vs

You cannot reverse the nylon gear. What is the tooth count of the one that's damaged? I have a spare gear here, it's the one that doesn't slide with the lever. Since one side is stripped on yours I suspect the one you need is the one that DOES slide. Hi Pete, I do indeed have the D gear missing. My...

Re: Viceroy 280vs

Admin - can you move this post into the Viceroy section? Mark - I think the tumbler gears themselves may be common to many Viceroy lathes (5" & 5 1/2"), but the arm they mounted on was specific to the 280 series. I think you should find parts lists and drawings on here somewhere. Parts with 'ML' nu...

Re: Viceroy 280vs

That part you are missing is the tumbler reverse, it should have four gears mounted to it. It's probably been removed because the hardened spigot it rides on (also missing) has a ruined thread. Mine has a ratty thread because someone forced a metric nut onto it though I rescued mine by making a bra...

Viceroy 280vs

Hello all, I’m new to the forum and new to lathes. I’ve recently acquired a Viceroy 280vs (the type with the joy stick) and I need a few parts. A gear carrier and some gears are missing and the left lower nylon gear inside the headstock has sheared all it’s teeth on the one side. Does anyone have a ...
