Re: Orac Mach3 Z stuttering when attempting to thread cut
Thread cutting operates fine if I turn off "Use Spindle Feedback In Sync Mode",
but obviously the pitch will be ropey.
Just waiting to try another desktop to see if that solves the problem.

I have a 1983 orac I am thinking of upgrading to Mach 3. The only fault it has is I am unable to alter the the spindle speed, which is down to the PC1690 board. Are there any kits available? Any advice on converting to Mach 3, would be welcomed. Or if anybody knows if someone could do this for me. I...

I have a spindle speed probem and have found that the PC 1690 board has a failed chip, Ferranti ZN435J 8216.

Re: Electronic drawings - 1983. Spindle at constant speed.
Hi,
I have tried reset buttons, but to no avail. I have had the PC1690 board checked out and the Ferranti ZN435J 8216 chip is failing, getting hot. I will try and source one of these or hopefully find a spare PC1690 board.

Re: Electronic drawings - 1983. Spindle at constant speed.
I have measured the voltage at pins 17 and 18 on the PC1690 board and it is 5.2V. When the
-ve button is pressed to reduce the speed the voltage drops to approx 1.2V.
So am I right in thinking the 10V Zener is ok. If so, what do I need to check on the VFD.

Re: Orac 1983 unable to change Spindle Speed
Hello Rob,
Thank you for responding.
No it doesn't change within the program.
It did work fine until I triggered the limit switch on the x axis.

John

Denford Orac 1983, Automatic tool changer wanted.
Hi all, I have just bought an 1983 Orac in great cond and totally standard.
I have written a few progs on xp laptop using the old dos software with no problems. I could now really do with an ATC or even a quick change tool post with holders, as this has the single clamp.
Cheers
John
